To Dump or Not to Dump, that is the question.

I would like to dump my black and grey tanks at the campsite before leaving and when I get home do a thorough cleaning of the black tank using a cleaning wand to make sure I get all the solids out. I would like to do this at my house so I don’t hold up others at the campsite that would need to wait for me to complete this. So here is my question. Can I dump my gray and black tanks in to my public sewage sewer clean out pipe located in my yard for my house (I’m definite not talking about a storm drain) it’s literally is right next to my Jayco x20e? I assume this option, if at all possible would differ state by state. I live in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Any thoughts?

If its your sewage drain, I don't see any reason why you couldn't use it.

Personally I would dump at the CG dump station, at minimum to have the tank empty for the trip home, and have a little water added after words to help knock down any TP. If no one is in line the CG then there should not be much of an issue to flush the tank.

I know a few people who go to a full hookup sites for the first and last campout, to flush out the systems.

I have heard of people using their cleanout to dump their TT. You should be able to call your city’s department of safety and inspection (building permits), and talk with them. They might even schedule a visit to discuss the issue with you.

I'm with dougtoms01 on this one - if the clean out is for the sewer pipe in your house only, and doesn't affect any other houses in your neighborhood, then I don't see any reason why you can't use for dumping. I have found that alerting city officials sometimes leads to confusion on their part, which then results in a denial even when there is no legal reason to do so. Case in point - my neighbor wanted to build his house on a 12-acre plot, but the county health dept drilled over a dozen perk tests, but couldn't find any that perked. So, they denied him a permit to build. He then hired a private company from outside to perk test it, and they found a perk on the first try. Later found out that the county tester didn't want to take the chance that he might be wrong, so denying the permit kept him out of trouble.

Alot of folks will use the FLO-JET MERCERATOR 12VDC PUMP at home to dump their tank into the house sewer system. My neighbor goes into the bathroom window and goes down the POT with his hose...

At home I use the FloJet connected with a 3/4" hose to the sewer clean-out located in my garage.

Works like a charm...if doing such a task has any charm to it!!

I would not ask a City Official anything. You can probably search City ordinances for anything related to sewage disposal, just to make sure there is not an ordinance against it. If it is close to your TT, than most people will not even notice what you are doing. I wish mine was as close. Mine is on the opposite side of the house. Hind sight, I wish I would have installed one next to the driveway...

I also dont see a problem with you doing a decent flush out at the campground. If I am only showing 1/2 full on the black tank, I tote it home and dump it at the storage place. The driving breaks everything up nicely and tank flushes cleaner.

While at home, I have dumped using a cart then dumped into the sewer clean out. That's a pain, but an option. I probably should have bought the macerator pump and hoses.

Have checked if your city municipal yard has a dump site? I agree with others, using you house sewer clean out is probably OK, but I don't use mine because our City provides a no cost dump site for residents. If I come home with full tanks I just swing by there and empty them.

X3. Dump it at home and don't worry about it. Sewage is sewage.

The major reason I prefer to clean out at the camp ground is so I don't have to tow the weight home - Can be 300lbs or so if around full. After I dump my tanks I often place a bag of ice and black tank solution down the toilet. The ice does a great job of breaking up the solids and scouring the tank. Now it is prepared for the next trip and needs no attention when at home.
