Tow Max tires

Do you think there really is a problem with Tow Max tires?

Never had them myself, but I have stopped to help others twice on the side of the road with most of a towmax tire spread all over the road behind them and damage to their rig.

The two that failed on my most recent trip say YES. They were less than three years old and had very few miles on them.

Many RV dealers are using them on new TT these days, along with an attractive price point, increasing the # of them on the road. Cant help but wonder if the statistics are influencing the number of reported problems.

When I go search the Big Name Tires, and look at customer feedback, I see similar types of feedback , where big name tires are blowing out as well.

I had 2 fail and a third with imminent failure in about a 75 mile stretch. I'm 110% done with TM. These tires were 3-I shears old, had about 7500mi, never saw 65mph, always covered in storage and always inflated to the correct pressure. My TireMinder prevented any damage.

Shouldn't question #2 read NO?

Interesting so far.

Of those with Tow Max, 71% have not had a problem.

1/3 or 33% of Tow Max Owners have had serious problems, and will never buy again.

I agree, interesting. At this point 50% say "no prob". Maybe I'm an old fart but no more TM's for me.

The poll does not ask the opinion of those who never had them and never will.

There is no option to vote no. I have had and have tow max tires, now on my 2014 33.5RETS. Have kept them properly inflated and so far no problems. These have now been on the unit going on 2 years and not sure how old they were before they were put on. Will have to see if I can find the date one day. So far so good. We use our unit once a month also.

So after a few days, and while it is a small number of responses, 20 JOF members have answered that they have or had Tow Max tires, and 30% of them (6) have said that they have experienced problems.

I'm thinking that 30%, while not very scientific, is a significant number of failures.

I'll do some checks with NTSB to see if there are any average statistics on tire failures to compare against.

I'm also wondering if Jayco monitors this site ( common practice today to monitor social media sites) and would care to weigh in on why they use a product with such an apparent failure rate, or if they have any data that contradicts generally negative comments on this and other RV websites about Tow Max Tires and why the use them on their product.

A wise decision. I don't dismiss that some have had issues, but there are far too many opinions about this and almost nothing that shows hard numbers. One guy told me once that his dealer said they get a lot of blow outs of Tow Max tires, but he was never able to tell us what that ratio is. It was simply the dealer's opinion.

This is another question I've asked, if someone has issues with Tow Max tires, why not file a NHTSA complaint?

In my case, I don't expect to ever be reimbursed for my failed tires, and it is much easier to just buy some new tires and go on about my business.

I can't vote because I only had them for a week. So voting never had a problem would be misleading. I view OEM ST tires as a method of shipping the camper to the dealer but not for actual use. I add the cost of tires into the cost of buying the rig. On my last one I tired to get Jayco to install what I wanted but they don't do that. so I took off the Tow Max D's and put on the Maxxis E's within a week of ownership. The yellow sticker on the camper is plenty of reason to expect problems with tires and IMHO it's unfair to put the blame on Tow Max. My OEM tires were under specified at Jayco not at Tow Max.

That's my point. People complain and say they've had problems. But no one wants to be bothered to report it. So from where I sit, there isn't enough hard evidence to tell me I should be worried.

You are the first one I've seen to state a truly logical reason for swapping the tires out. Usually people say they do it because of what "people on the Internet" said about "Blowmax" tires. Which in my opinion is a very poor reason for swapping them out.
