Turning off closed caption

Hey folks,
I need some help. We have a 2013 Jayco 28BHBE and it has the Jensen AWM965 stereo/dvd player. Problem is every DVD we try to watch will have the closed captioning turned ON and I can't figure out how to turn it off. As an added note, the children lost the remote control to the unit on our first trip, so if the remote holds the key to the universe, I need to know.
Thanks!

Is it ONLY happening with DVD's? Or TV as well?

If it's only DVD's, I would expect that it is "subtitles" as opposed to closed captioning. Maybe look for subtitles somewhere in the menu if you're able to access it from the DVD player without the remote.

Usually closed captioning is a function of the TV. Look under the menu of options in the settings and there should be an option to turn it off/on. If no menu options on tv it may need a remote. Contact Jayco as they may have another remote and may be able to tell how to turn CC off. Good luck.

We encountered the same problem just last night. Went out to the trailer to watch a movie, and the closed captioning was on. Was not on while watching tv channels though. I was trying every option on the tv and dvd player, nothing worked. Tried simply shutting off subtitles on dvd itself, problem solved.

Subtitles may be the key here. It only happens on DVD's. I've turned off CC but haven't looked at subtitles.
Thanks folks!

I was able to turn off the closed captioning by using the stereo remote and clicking "SUBT" until off appeared on the the TV screen.

We have a similar problem with DVD's. I believe some disks cause the player to automatically turn on the subtitles and others don't. I've not found a way to permanently turn them off.

This is definitely an issue with the Jensen unit. There is no way to change the default. Every DVD we put in I have to turn off the subtitles. That said we bought a small Bluray player so this is no longer an issue.
