Washer/dryer combos
We're looking at buying a big trailer to leave in Florida at our favorite resort. Planning on keeping our current one to camp in around our home area and for me to use when I decide to work out of town.
When we were in Florida, wife did laundry at the campground and was appalled that it cost her $12 to do 3 loads at the campground, so she'd kind of like to have a washer and dryer down there.
Before I commit myself to a model that accepts a washer/dryer, is it worth it? They look kind of small to me, but I haven't done laundry in years.
I'd just appreciate any info anyone can give me about this.

I'm guessing not many people on this site have washer dryer combos?

I don't yet, but do plan to add one in the future when the grandsons stop traveling with us as much as they do presently. Need the storage space where a combination unit is configured to go for now. My unit is already plumbed and wired for it, so when I do decide it is time I am ready.
I have talked to a few folks who have the combination Splendide and they readily admit that the capacity is very limited and the cycle times are very long, but they are happy they have them overall. They say there is definately a learning curve to their proper use. Some have the unvented model, I plan to install the vented style. Forget washing any comforters or large blankets too. Also don't forget it adds complexity to your winterizing routine if you live in an area freezing is a concern.
Some friends changed coaches and now have separate units, and say far and away that is a better choice when possible. But given the choice between none and a combo, they would again have a combo. Only one said they would forgo onboard laundry because they were willing to fork over the money to get everything done relatively quickly at a laundromat.

We have the Splendide stack pair in the PINNACLE that way you can wash a 2nd load while the first is drying. Most people we know with the combo complain on how long each load takes to wash/dry. As far as capacity we usually do 3 loads every 5/7 days.
The "boss" is a happy camper not having to lug clothes to the laundromat.

Question to ask is how many loads of laundry can you do for the cost of the machines? Also don't forget the social aspect of the laundromat. I have gotten great leads on new sites to go see at the laundromat, and met new friends

I have a Splendide 2100XC and would not full time without it. This model is vented.
Yes it is small, takes 3 hours or so per run, wrinkles if you overload it, and takes up storage space, but....
I'm retired and don't care how long it takes and I don't have to be there to transfer the wash to the dryer. You learn how much to put in it so wrinkles are minimal and I also buy clothing that doesn't wrinkle much and who cares anyway, I'm retired. It does take up storage space, but I don't need more space to haul stuff around that I might need someday.
Please read the first sentence of this post again now.

I wish I had room, no argument that separates are better overall. But Jayco only built the space big enough for a combo unit in my unit. Oh well!
Thanks for the all the good info everyone.

The CG that Mom & Dad are in, gave them a 10 x 10 shed to keep on their site. They are looking at putting a washer/dryer in the shed, as they can get residential size units in there. They are on a 2 year lease so if they leave for a while, the site remains theirs and no one else can camp on it.
Just a thought, not sure if your setup will be the same.

I'm hosting right now at a park that gives hosts their quarters back when the machines are robbed. You just mark them so they are different from other hosts so laundry is free other than your own detergent. The machines are approx 150 yards from my site and I have a golf cart, but guess what? I use my Splendide and have never used the park machines. It is much more convenient to do the laundry within feet of where the laundry is stored vs loading it up and going to the park facility. Besides, I use the Splendide as my dirty clothes hamper for colored clothing. When it is full enough to run I run it.
And I don't like the thought of what has been in the park machines? I have seen people washing dog blankets and who knows what else. Not for me.
