Water Pump Q...letting it run dry

Being the newb TT owner that I am, I have already made a mistake. After emptying my black and gray tanks I turned on the pump to rinse the toilet a final time and to add water to the black tank as recommended, anyway, just as I am ready to pull out I think to open the fresh water tank valve and let it drain as I'm driving home, see where this is going? I get parked at home and as I'm walking back to the trailer I hear it... the pump is running, I left it on when I rinsed the toilet. My drive home and parking the trailer was about 25-30 min and I had better than 3/4 full fresh water tank, so with as slow as that small valve lets water out I'm sure it wasn't running the whole drive home but... how sturdie are these pumps, did I cause damage by letting it run dry? Wont be able to check it till the weekend but thought I'd ask and get some feed back.

You are not the only one that has done this. I did this and probably many others if they fess up. Mine was on for a good hour or so and it did not burn it at all. I don't know if I was lucky or if these pumps can take a beating.

I think you should be OK. Because the pump was started with water in the tank even after it pumped dry there was still a little bit of water remaining in the pump to lubricate it somewhat.

The pump is actually rated to run dry so you should be fine. I think you would have to leave it on for a very very long time to damage it.

Thank you all for the feed back, I feel better, but I'll check it this weekend and report any bad news...

They are also thermally protected so even running them dry is not the only thing that they can withstand. While backing our trailer into a real tight spot last weekend I broke the back window on my canopy. I was surprised hearing a pop and wondered what that was. The handle on the opposite side of the turn had come in contact with part of a tree that was out of view of my mirror. Not happy about it, but the view from the spot I was in looked out over the ocean on Similk Bay and was worth every penny.

I've left mine on for more than overnight. Not 100% sure if it was hours or days - but either way it was fine.
