Is your WeBoost Cell Booster working? How do I know? That was a question that's been bugging me since we bought it a year ago.
I'd argue with the Youtube content creators that would show the increase in signal strength when they held their phone next to the internal antenna. I was sure that any signal increase was simply a measurement of the power radiated by the internal antenna. Not an indication of an amplified signal from the cell tower.
So, I finally decided to ask WeBoost tech support. I wasn't expecting a response - but that simply made me wrong TWICE!
I got a fast reply from their tech that told me I was wrong. Here's his reply:
"Thanks for reaching out. The inside antenna is simply broadcasting the amplified signal provided from the booster itself. Signal will always be better when closer to the inside antenna. Getting a dBm reading with the booster on is in fact a measurement of how much the booster is amplifying the signal.
Getting a reading with the booster off is a measurement of the signal being received by your phone directly from the tower, so the booster is bypassed completely at this point. This is why we ask to take dBm readings with the booster on and off when determining if the booster is working. If the measurement is better with the booster on compared to off, then it is performing as it should.
If you were to stand right next to the outside antenna and take a dBm reading, it is now measuring the signal being received from the the tower by the outside antenna."
In this case, I'm glad I was wrong, twice!
