Question What sealant does Jayco/Starcraft use outside?

Does anyone know what type of sealant is used on the external fittings, especially the tail light assemblies?

From what I can tell, it's a clear, fairly firm material that cures to an almost matt finish. It's harder than silicone and I would like to know what it is.

On my 2013 Starcraft 266RKS, I can clearly see it sealing the topside of the rear light assemblies where they contact the body of the trailer. It's applied in a semicircle, at the top, like a water diverting "dam".

Anyone know?

I don't know what that brand of sealant is, but I can recommend a good clear sealant (that is not silicone): Proflex clear. I've had some in place for about two years, and it is in good condition.

I called Jayco about the roof and they said Dicor was what they used.

Is it okay to use Dicor around the bathroom vent on the roof? I am going to install a Fantastic Fan Vent Cover and I need to expose 4 screws that are in the seal around the existing vent. I want to reseal them when I install the new cover. I have a Alpha roof so is Dicor okay or should I use Proflex sealant?

From what I've read, it's Dicor for the roof, and Proflex for the fixtures in the walls (like lights and plugs and storage doors...)

If you use Dicor on a vertical surface, will it not just run off? It's supposed to be self-leveling, but that only really works on a horizontal surface, right?

That's my plan anyway. I already have a tube of Dicor for the roof, and will order a tube of Proflex for the rest...

Alpha seems to have their own sealant:

Apply a generous amount of Alpha Systems 1010 Sealant over the top of any existing caulk in the area being re-sealed.

They also make a "traditional' EDPM rubber roof and use the same sealant. I'd look for the Alpha brand material and use it to be consistant. It may be 100% the same as the Dicor material, but do you really want to have to explain why you did not use Alpha if it all goes south?

I've used Dicor before and it does self level. I would NOT use it on a verticle surface!

Yes.., Dicor 501 LSW caulk is for horizontal surfaces (Self-Leveling/Lap Sealant).

Dicor makes a specific caulk for vertical surfaces: Dicor 551-LSW (white) Non-Sag/Lap Sealant for Vertical Surfaces. It also comes in Dove, Grey, and Tan.

I have used the Proflex for RV windows, etc and boat applications. I can say that is tough stuff!
