Where are the AC people? MiniSplit questions

why oh why are mini split units not used in RVs or mobile applications?

Or is this inline with why no RV's have HDMI?

Not sure, but some motorhomes do have basement units, which is a little closer, and our last class A motorhome had nothing but HDMI. I have seen a few people install the mini split units on towables. One even managed to tie it into the duct system. Size I'd say is a big factor and the real estate required to install one.

Cost is probably the biggest factor because you would have to run refrigerant lines from the condenser unit through the trailer to each cooling fan unit mounted inside the trailer. Self contain roof or wall mounted units don't require refrigerant lines to be run.

Big time cost!! A 12,000btu Mitsubishi mini split will cost upwards of $2,000. The size of the condensing unit would be a factor as well. I have yet to see a condenser shorter than the current units on RV's. Now, I'm not saying you couldn't adapt one to an RV. But where are you going to mount all the components?

Mini splits are nice but in my opinion, not for RV's. Unless the minisplit manufacturers design one specifically for RV's, I don't see any of them working out.
