WIFI booster

I just added a wifi booster repeater for my Jayco 22 bhm. Got tired of worrying about potentially being placed in an area with little to no wifi signal that the park offered. After a lot of research I pulled the trigger on the Alpha desktop booster kit from https://www.technorv.com/wifi-desktop-booster-kit/

Technorv also has a YouTube channel in case you want to check it out.

Happy Camping!

I had one of those mounted in a waterproof box on a pole outside. Hope you have better luck with it than I did.

WIFI booster

Many CG’s throttle the WiFi down so no one hogs the band width. At my seasonal site, I have a good WiFi signal, but it won’t allow streaming on my roku stick, but is fine for email and the like. In order to stream video I have to use my Verizon phone as a hot spot.

Picked up the WiFi Ranger at teh FMCA Rally Perry, GA. Installation with outside antenna very easy. Speedtest in my driveway pulling home wifi was at 12.5 mbps on first test. Please so far, will know more on campground run. Support was excellent.

I carry a WiFi booster with me. It does help when camping out away from the campground's nearest access point. But that's only part of the problem with WiFi in most campgrounds.

The other problem is limited bandwidth. Many campgrounds IMO don't have any better bandwidth than you have at home. All you need is for a few people to attempt streaming to slow it to a crawl. A booster can't improve bandwidth.

For that problem I carry my own WiFi hotspot. It usually gets a good cellular signal anywhere close to an interstate. Not so much so in the boonies.

Not sure why this keeps coming up. A few private CG's offer hi speed streaming capable Wifi as a premium extra charge. Pretty much any state park that has wifi has vey limited bandwidth as stated. A booster might move you higher on the food chain but will not provide a useful streaming experience and will absolutely hose up the system for all the other users.

If you want to stream, bring your own hotspot.

I bought an inexpensive hot spot. I buy a $25 card and it lasts for a month. But it is based on cellular service so it is really only good for emails.

As we stay at state and federal compgrounds as well as casinos or wal marts it is really handy. We can even use it in the car if we need to.

Ubiquiti makes several very good boosters. We have one of these at our seasonal site. Makes for a much better WiFi experience. I use it to feed our wireless router which I have a printer and a NAS connected to (I work out of the TT). Over the last 2 seasons we've used it, we averaged about 7GB of data usage per month. The campground owners know we use it and even told us which of their APs to point to.

I also use one of these to bridge internet from our house to a building about 100 feet away with trees and other buildings in the way. It greatly improves internet access in that building.

The Ubiquiti unit can be plugged directly into a laptop/desktop, connected to a router or a Ubiquiti airGateway. The airGateway connects directly to the POE adapter for the booster and works like a WiFi router so multiple devices can use it.

The only downside of the Ubiquiti unit we have is that it is not omni-directional. It has to be pointed in the general direction of the source signal.

I have been looking for the same thing for my new unit. I have seen this one recommended on this forum but you have to get a router for inside...
EnGenius model ENS202ENT
https://www.amazon.com/EnGenius-Tech...nius+ens202ext
Seems like people say it gets signal from 1 - 2 miles

Then while looking I see Winegard has come out with 2.0 dome model recently...
Wifi only booster $199
Wifi plus 4G LTE built in where its like a hotspot for $349 (You just get your service provider to give you a SIM card for it)
I was thinking about getting the Winegard with 4G due to its a nice dome just sitting on the roof in plus get the 4G incase I wanted to get a data connection later for prepaid or something.

Anyone have experience with the Winegard boosters? Similar range of 1-2 miles?

I just wasted about $90 on an AT&T mobile hotpot and a prepaid card.
Setup was tedious, and probably inimidating for the non technical, and I eventually found out out that AT&T's coverage maps are not at all accurate.

I had checked, specially, for this location, before I laid out the money, and their maps show full coverage... but, get out here and... nothing.

So I called them (on my Verizon phone, which is working just fine...), They told me that, yes, they have coverage everywhere
Eventually, I gave the guy my exact location, and he must have looked closer. "Oh, well, there are some areas of .... low coverage around there"

Yes. I'm sitting in one...which isn't on their published map... but, not to worry, if I drive 8 miles down the road, he assured me I'll get plenty of signal.

Oh, and the prepaid card expires after 90 days, whether I use it or not. ..

Anyone know if Verizon do a non- contract hotspot?
