1500 silverado

Doe's anybody pull a 27RLS Jay flight with a new 1500 silverado with 6.2 engine? truck is rated to pull 12,000# I welcome any input!
I currently have a 1500 silverado with a 5.3 engine and 3:42 gears rated an 9,000# thinking obout trading up . any thoughts

That 6.2 will do an adequate job but if you are going to trade up why not go with a 2500 and have that extra safety margin?

Plenty motor...I like dodge..but the Chevy 6.2 out pulls the gas Dodge in test.
As stated above..go with the 2500.

I`m guessing there are not many members here with the 6.2 1500, but that`s just a guess from seeing many tow vehicle posts here.

I pulled a 2013 26BH with a Chevy 1500 5.3 We live in Delaware which is flat as a pancake. As long as we stayed in DE, Eastern Shore of MD it was fine. If we went to PA another story.
Just traded on 12/31 for a 2015, Silverado 2500...the advice you're getting is good. Don't go with the 1500 6.2, go with the 2500, World and I mean World of difference..
Had to laugh, now that I have the larger truck have the 26BH for sale,,,,,we want 27RLS... Good luck whatever truck you decide

I pull a JayFlight 26BHS with my 2012 Chevy CC 1500 with the 6.2 gas engine, and let me tell you that this truck is absolutely a perfect match for this "mid range" weighted trailer. Mine is rated for 10,400lb max trailer weight, 16,000lb GCWR, a payload of 1,813lbs., with a 3.73 axle ratio. The engine has 403 hp, and 417 ft. Lbs. of torque. I do believe the numbers are even better on the 14's and 15's.

My trailer weighs approx. 7000-7300 lbs loaded with a tongue weight of 900 lbs. I have not been to a CAT scale yet, but I have weighed the tongue with a Shurline scale that I just recently got.

Now.....In my opinion, this is by far the best kept secret that GM produces. It is very easy to say "get a 2500", but if what you want is a 1500, then there is no better. It's limiting factor, as all 1/2 tons will be the payload. If 2500's had this engine, it would be a different story.....but they don't. I would feel very confident in pulling a much heavier setup if I ever have to. This thing will flat out pull, has excellent engine braking, along with feeling very stable with the heavier suspension. I average 14-15 mpg around town and highway, and get 8-9 mpg pulling using premium fuel all the time. It really is a great engine, but doesn't get a lot of fanfare because honestly, I don't think they make very many. I have never came across another in my 2 1/2 years owning one. I'm sure there are some out there somewhere! Please chime in, if so.

Your current 5.3 liter is probably going to work pretty hard for its living with this trailer.

My 5.7 liter has about 20 less hp and torque than the chevy 6.2 liter and is a really good match for my 27DSRL, which is about 600# lighter than your trailer.

Payload is my problem. The chevy CDavid has about 500# better rating. This is quite significant as you will read about on this forum and others

If you are not planning on a larger trailer or 5th wheel in the future the 6.2 gas
1500 looks like a winner.

Tow rating means nothing. It's how much you can carry in the truck. Check the door sticker on the truck to see what the max CCC is. Figure what you will put in the truck and that's what you have left for tongue weight. You can have the biggest baddest motor and high tow rating but if the truck only has 12-1500lbs for payload then all that is moot.

In the case of the 27RLS (8,600lb GVWR) and a GM 1500, it may boil down to your personal TV/TT loading habits. A GM 1500 properly configured may be doable and be within associated weight specifications, but IMO only under conservative TV/TT loading conditions.

I believe you may find that a 3/4 ton truck's added payload capacity would be better suited for the 27RLS under heavier loaded TV/TT conditions.
