1500 to 2500?

In my 1st thread I revealed, tt-eagle 314bds. Currently I have a 2012 Chevy 1500 crew- 9500 tow capacity- 15000-cvwr. I went to truck dealer to look at a 12 2500 crew- 9300 tow capacity- 16000-

My tt weighs 8000# unloaded
My tv weighs 5100# unloaded
Combined. 13100# unloaded
Maximum. 15000#

My tt weighs 8000#
2500 tv weighs 6400#. 6.0 with 3.73
Combined 14400#
Maximum. 16000#

I understand that 2500 is more truck but the numbers say that I have more wiggle room with the 1500 and that baffles me. I know with a diesel or with 4.10 gears I would be fine. All the responses were " you need a 3/4 ton to pull that trailer" but the numbers are confusing.

I am not trying to defend my 1500 because I know a bigger truck is better.

You need to also take into consideration the respective payload capacity and GVWR of the two trucks, this is normally where a 3/4 ton will surpass a 1/2 ton...., which is important when looking at loaded TT tongue weights.

Rustic Eagle is correct. Payload capacity on the rear axle is almost always more as you go up the scale from 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, and 1 ton. In addition, the heavier truck will have more weight in the front end, which should give more tongue weight capacity while towing TTs.

Plus a stouter frame, larger brakes, e rated tires, etc.

What about the drive train? starting with the engine, some 2500 trucks are starting out with engines smaller than 5.0 liters,

Nowadays, the 2500 trucks will have various options for the engines and rearends, each different configuration will yield different payloads and tow capacities

I have a chance to get a decent deal on a 2500 6.0 -3.73. Will that work or should I go for the 4.10?

The 6.0 with 3.73 is what I had.. and it did well towing my last trailer that was near that weight and I towed in the mountains... but it will suck gas at times...
