[QUOTE=Paintinfool3;400038snip....I work at the Fort wayne assy plant a few days a week and see all kinds and sizes of tire wheel combos go down the line......snip[/QUOTE]

I noticed that GM even offers the choice of 'all-season' or 'all-terrain' tire tread as well with most of the different truck rim sizes...., no whitewalls though

Fort Wayne Assembly is my truck's build Plant.

Bob

When I bought new wheels/tires for my Duramax it was a pretty easy decision. LT tires for 20" wheels cost considerable more than the same tire for 18" wheels, as much as 50% difference in cost. While I likes the look of the larger wheels a lot more, I reminded myself that my truck is purpose built with towing in mind. I'm too old to to be cool anymore, just ask my 10 y/o, so instead of locking myself into more expensive tires forever I went with the smaller wheel. Two years later I couldn't be happier.

Same thought process came in when I considered putting a lift on the truck. Again it would have looked awesome, but I don't own this truck for looks.

Thanks for all the info. Def a fan of cheaper tires for replacements. Glad to hear the 18" will hold as much weight as 20". I've grown fond of Micheline tires and currently run the LTX M/S on my burb.

The 20" tires are for looks and would not be found on a rig that was meant for work. Like pulling a heavy trailer.
F-450, F-550 and other serious work trucks of the like are all equipped with 19.5in rims.

I'm running 20" on my F250 from the Factory. By the time these tires wear out, 20 inch tires will be the norm & prices will drop. These are TOYO A/T Open Country LT275/65R20 and I have a bit over 6" of sidewall. In the past year I have not been afraid to drive off road in Mud or Snow with this tire. In fact will be in the Mountains of Northern PA tomorrow on mostly Forest Service roads

Plenty of sidewall & obliviously not a Low profile tire.

Well Bob I am not sure about the all terrain but probably. I know we build over 6000 a week and are still way behind. I have no earthly Idea who is buying the trucks but I am amazed

Bummer it isn't a "hometown" build like our HD. Lol

Our truck lives under 15 minutes away from where it was born....

But if you live in the SW corner of the state FW would be your "hometown" plant I guess.

Paintinfool,

The number of trucks usually sitting at the Flint plant is amazing! Plus there is a storage lot about 10 minutes away from the plant. Rows of trucks!!!

I live 25 miles from Flint Assembly, and my GM dealer is a mile down the road ......, not sure what variables come into play for 2500HD build Plant origin.
