2012 GMC Sierra 1500 7 Way Outlet Issue

We just got a new to us TV. We hooked our X17Z to it and no power. Took the truck to the dealership and had it replaced. Our service advisor notified us that we would need to get the trailer plug replaced to fit into this receptical. He said it's a problem with all Chevy/GMC trucks 2009 and newer. Sure enough, the receptical is too big/doesn't hold the plug in place for proper contact for trailer lights. I can't find anything online about this. I called our Jayco dealership and they haven't heard this either. I am sure people tow rv's with these trucks. I don't want to put a custom tail on a trailer that we plan on trading in to upgrade within the next year. Has anyone had this problem and if so, what did you do to fix it? I'm at a loss and we are leaving on our first trip of the season on Friday.

I had a 2009 now a 2015, first Silverado now Sierra and both towed several trailers and never had an issue not fitting. I did have some blown fuses over the years, that would be my first check.

I have had a 2003 GMC, a 2011 Ram and a 2012 GMC and have never had a problem with the seven-pin plug. Mine have always been a pretty tight fit but a great connection once put in far enough to contact the pins. I think your service advisor is full of it.

Congrats on the new tv!

IF I recall correctly, on our '10 Chevy I had to hook up the positive to the stud at the fuse block under the hood, and add the fuse. May be the same for your '12 if the previous owner never towed anything that needed the 12v constant at the trailer plug. The power for the brake controller also needed to be hooked up to the other 12v stud if not done already.

Not sure why the replacement plug would be any different than the original if it is a factory replacement plug.
