^ True about the timing chain, although they made some changes to the EcoBoost for '13 and I haven't heard of many chain rattles in the 13+ years.

Yeah, I should've added that it's about a $3000 repair, which is also why I mentioned it.

You'll love the truck. Mine's a year older, tricked out with the Max tow and the HD Payload package. That said, average around town is about 17.5 to 18.5. Winter daily driving dropped it to 15 to 16 (due to prolonged warm up times in our frozen climate). Highway around 20. Yours probably will be better as I have the high gear transmission.
Towing the 8,000lb fifth wheel it runs about 10.5. The 3500 lb boat, around 16.5. I can easily pass semi's going up a 6% grade with the 5th.

I've found going up to premium doesn't quite get the 10% increase in milage the manual suggests. That said, if the price of premium is less than 10% of regular, and looks to be steady for a while, I'll move up. Will also use it when towing on longer trips, just to get the increase in mileage between fill ups.

2013 Ford F-150 Ecoboost

Was a GM guy for 20 years and now we have a '13 F150 Eco FX4. Awesome towing machine. Pulls our 26RKS weighing in a little over 7k with room to spare. Plenty of power. The one thing I did do was replace the P rated tires with LT, it helped with the jello feeling which may have been due (in part) to the off-road package.

Haven't seen a ton of the chain slap issues here. As a matter of fact, we don't even stock parts for the TSB anymore. Pretty much was VCT replacements (intake & exhaust), bunch of different gaskets and the primary chain. Again, doing a history search shows we haven't done one in a while. The TSB pays between 9.0-9.2 hours. So that tells me it required taking the front cover off (just like the 5.4L).

Thanks for the tips everyone. Yes this did originally come with running boards but the dealer said they were pretty badly dinged up by the previous owner, so they took them off and put side steps on. I'm fine with that, just as long as there's something. DW is a little vertically challenged and my mom is in her 70's, so they both need a little help climbing in. I'm still learning about this truck and reading everything I can find on it.

What's even more interesting about this truck is that it's never towed a trailer. The paint around the receiver is pristine, and the trailer battery charge relay and fuse are still in the little baggie in the glove compartment. A quick look at the owner's manual showed me where they go.

Very nice truck, congratulations. Really miss my F150 ecoboost as a daily driver, that engine just goes and goes. You will be impressed towing over hills with all that torque.

Ford has a website I think is called Myford. You can log your truck in and see its history and other useful info. I love my 13 F150 Ecoboost. Its a good solid truck!
