Well, I put in another order and as you know it's going to take another 6 to 8 weeks but I'm not in a hurry to get something the way I want it.

Well, we just made our first trip with our new truck and hitch set up. Roughly 400 miles from Abilene Texas to Robbers Cave State Park OK. Truck and hitch did awesome. Mostly traveled 65 mph and averaged 8.7 mpg. Never once felt low on power and mostly stayed in 5th gear, which is top gear in tow/haul. Would pull hard and finally downshift if needed on steep hills. Downshifts are smooth. Way smoother than my 12 CTD. It did once downshift to third on a long grade. RPMS hit 4000 and it gained speed and up shifted to 4th before we crested the hill. I'm way satisfied.

What model 5er are you pulling with that 2500? Also what is your pin weight? That looks to be a large 5er for a 3/4ton. It handles it well from what you say. Just curious I own a 2500 6.4 myself.

It's a 2014 Eagle 34.5 bhts. I haven't actually weighed the pin weight. I believe empty its around 1800 lbs. The truck handles it great. The newer rear suspension is really stable. The air suspension makes it even better. If you need more information, I will be glad to help.

It's good to hear someone pulling some good weight. Our camper is around 9k loaded I think. Never actually weighed it either We have 2014 314bhds eagle. Everything I've read on other forums is better have a one ton for anything over 12k gvwr 5er. The weight police as people say. Really I don't know if anyone really knows what the legal limits are on these trucks. Is it the gvwr or the ragwr. I have heard two different trains of thought. It's ok to go over the gvwr ad long you are under the axle weight ratings. Or do not go over any ratings. Which if you go by the latter our 3/4 tons could only pull a half ton 5er. If perhaps someday you could weigh your setup that would be cool. Thanks.

Only way to find out the legal limits is to call a lawyer that would handle manslaughter cases. Or maybe your ins agent. Lots of RVers say you can get sued if you cause an accident towing overweight and someone is maimed or killed.
What I find ironic is some of those same people are old enough to have towed back in the day when nothing had a tow rating. Of course back then there weren't sue happy lawyers either.
JMO but as long as you stay under the trucks GCVWR you should be good to go.

You are right about the old days. I spoke once before to a ohio weight control officer for commercial trucks about being over the tow limit at that time of my f150. He said don't worry about because they do not worry about recreational vehicles. Also he said that they would likely not weigh the vehicle in question if there was a wreck.. Not sure if I would take his word on it or not. So that's why I got a 3/4ton. I will say there are a lot of overweight vehicles towing rvs. I guess if you stay within reason like you said below the gcvwr and axle ratings it would be fine even if over on gvwr.

I went with 3/4 ton when I probably could have went with 1/2 ton. Probably be OK is not worth risking my family or innocent person's safety.

All I know is this. This hemi sure can pull well and is happy doing it. Glad I made the purchase. I have switched to a prodigy p3 brake controller in lieu of the factory. There had been some skepticism of whether the factory one is programmed correctly. I get much better braking from trailer with the prodigy.

Do you have it set on "heavy electric" mode? What issues are you having?

The braking did not seem on par to what my ford controller was in my 05 ford which was integrated. It took more braking effort from the ram to get the same trailer stopped. Yes I played around with the settings. There is a looong thread on the page ramforum.com it is titled Brake Controller and it details the findings of the programming problem with the 2015 trucks itbm. In short ram has programmed the controller to not exceed 7 volts to brakes below 30mph regardless of setting and even using the slider. I will try and get a link to it.

Thank you. Everyone is talking about 2015. I have a 2014 2500, does it effect all recent years?

I do not believe it does but there have been a couple that have stated after they had their truck flashed at dealer that their itbm started to act up on a pre 2015 truck. You would have to read through it. They talk about part numbers and everything. Have a veer or two or pop if you don't drink and read it through. You are probably ok. Ram does not have a fix yet. I don't think they are even sure they believe it is a problem. Corporate is getting involved though somewhat.

Usually people have to sue or crash first it seems for anything to change.
