Similar situation to the OP, in that our truck is predominately a daily driver. But it did need to be able to tow our 2011 31.5 RLDS six to eight times a year. We ordered a 2015 RAM 2500 "Big Horn" long bed configured with the 6.4L engine, 4.10 rear end, bed camera, 5th wheel prep package, and creature comfort packages for the Mrs. I added a backup cameras to the truck and RV after we took delivery.
Truck arrived first week of June and we have done three RV trips with it so far. Cant begin to tell you how pleased we are with the overall performance. MPG has been hanging around 14 to 14.5 as a daily driver and 8-9 when towing, which are figures well within our expectations. The tow prep package makes hitch removal a snap when I need an uncluttered bed for hauling.
I had to chuckle at the so called "test" up the big hill where the RAM 6.4 was a bit slower. Other than chest pounding bragging rights for the other brands, it was of no value to me. In the real world of towing in combined conditions, we get to where we are going in the time frame we planned. My racing days have passed long ago, so arrival times are now planned using only the big hand on the clock.
Ok, thats my 2 cents on the RAM with a 6.4. Happy with ours an no regrets on the purchase.

Per the Ram manual '07 has 30K miles schedule as I noted before. Sounds like this change a lot in newer models...

Interesting stuff here. Im in the same situation right now.....not sure I want to deal with all the emission control issues that all 3 manufacturers seem to be having.

What might those issues be? Since they all went to DEF those issues are gone. I read a lot of forums including the Cummins foum of which I own and emission problems are rare.

Read the forums of all three.....they all have issues from time to time and I bet hardly none of them make it to 100k without an emission sensor of some sort needing replaced, or a check engine light for an emission control malfunction.
The big trucks are the same way.
If I go diesel, it will definitely be a cummins....I believe they are futher along than the other 2.

Good luck. I recently went from the 2500 4x4 crew cab long bed with hemi back to a 3500 diesel.
Damn hemi was only getting 10mpg tops everyday driving. The new diesel is up to almost 20mpg doing the same driving with 14,000 miles on it now

Congratulations on the new truck.I recently upgraded from a Chevy 1500 5.3 to a Chevy 2500 6.0.Everyone gave me crap for not getting a diesel.I told them at the end of the day it's my money to spend.I don't need a diesel to pull a travel trailer with a gvwr of 7000 pounds.I would have to drive it 250k miles to make up the fuel savings on the extra 10 grand.Plus I can put a new motor in my gas truck for what a set of injectors for a diesel runs.
If your ram 6.4 will do what you want it to do I say run with it.

That would explain a lot. The 5.7 is a stout little motor, but it drinks a lot when it's worked and moving a 3 ton rolling workhorse would work it.
The new 6.4 has the MDS technology. I can't speak highly enough about it- it saves a TON of fuel on the highway. I had an issue with mine that threw a CEL for 2 weeks straight (bad oil pressure switch) which disables MDS. My fuel mileage plummeted. Now that it's fixed, MDS is working and my average is coming down again per fuelly.
OP- I love the 6.4. I came from a 5.7 which was a great little engine when you let it rev, but you could sure tell when it hit it's power band. The 6.4 (my impression) is just a workhorse gasser. The power comes on quick and it is very fluid through the curve. Feels like the torque curve of my old 5.4 which was as flat as the prairies and I loved it. I am really going to enjoy this truck too

I had the 6.4 in my challenger and it was AWESOME So with the rite gear ratio I would see no problem with this motor in a truck

Sorry for the upside down pic. Can't figure out how to flip it. 100 miles in I'm loving it. The air ride rear suspension is awesome. Has a trailer mode to lower the rear end to flatten the pitch of the truck. Back and bed cams are great. Also love how you can turn them on while driving. Keyless entry, auto wipers and lights, rambox, led bed lights.... Ram is doing good things. Still curious to see how it handles the rv, but so far I'm super happy.

Ditto on this sounding excessive. I have 220K on my Ram. Per the standard maintenance schedule, Plugs, plug wires fluids etc. every 100K.
My Hemi is running strong with absolutely no issues. I do my own oil and filter changes.

First impression is the hemi is great. Sure there's nothing quite like driving a cummins, but this is sweet on its own level. It is very punchy and sounds great. It is so punchy that I'm a little nervous about the Texas ice storms that are sure to happen soon. I am feeling more and more confident about the truck the more I drive it.
