+1

It's not even icy here yet, and I've broken the rear loose PLENTY of times. And on dry pavement no less. My GMC had pretty good traction control, but in the handful of times I've had the need for it with the RAM, it hasn't worked out so well.

One wet day when I was getting onto the freeway on a short ramp, I broke the rear loose, and it stayed loose for probably 200 yards before I finally got my foot out of it enough to connect! But it was pretty straight during that time, so I guess that's good!

A little over a week into owning this dude and I'm loving it. The RamBoxes are awesome. I ordered the dividers and gun racks that go in them. The air ride and new suspension is very nice. I like being able to level the load when hooking onto a trailer. Being able to customize the dash cluster is nice also. so far I have no regrets, but I haven't hooked onto the RV yet.

I did just take a 900 mile trip to el paso and back this weekend. Basically no weight in the truck. Just some gear and rifles for long range desert shooting with some friends. Might have been doing slightly more than the 80 mph speed limit most of the way. Average mpg on the dash was 14.2 I'm fairly happy with that. There was terrible amount of wind on the way down there and on the way back the mpg kept rising.

The engine sounds great and has tons of power. I am excited to get hooked up and try it out. The transmission shifting is seamless.... Way softer than with the diesel combo. Not sure if that's good or bad, but it is almost unnoticeable in this combo.

I will try to get some more pics and if ya'll have any questions/concerns let me know. I will try to help out.

All in all, I feel like I made the right decision.

Man this is good to and thank you for the review, I should find out whether or not are they able to find to one I want. I am excited for you and please take some pics when you get that beast hook up.

So what size tires did you get and what kind of gears did you get? I'm looking at the Big Horn and if I can get it I would like to go with the 4.10 gears but if I can't I will be happy with the 3.73 gears.

I don't have a TT yet but the wife and I are planning on getting one hopefully next year and when we do get one I would like to be able to get what I want. Since it will be just my wife and I we are looking anywhere from a 26' to 30' and weight about 8k to 9.5 but if it's lighter thats okay to.

Congratulations on the New Truck! I've had mine for 11 months now and totally satisfied. MPG empty is 11.5 to 13 around town, 17+ on the open road. Towing my Jayco Eagle 322 FKS(9500 lbs) to Martinsville,VA. and back to NY. I avg between 8.5 and 10 mpg.

Okay guys I'm getting ready to order a 2016 2500 so my question is for those that have 3.73 and the 4.10 gears do both get the same mileage empty, because I would like to get the 4.10 gears the TT that I'm planning on getting will be about 9k lbs give and take but how about empty are you getting about the same? Thank for your comments.

From what I understand, the difference will be negligible as far as MPGs go. Also, from what I understand, the difference is further minimized because of the 6-spd transmissions; these aren't the old 4-spds of the past where it really made a noticeable difference.

That being said, I have the 3.73 and I get between 11 & 13 in town, and up to 18 or so on the hwy, and about 9-11 towing.

It would be neat to actually tow with both, and see what the real differences are. If we're being honest, sometimes I wish I had held out for the 4.10, but I have no other reason than curiosity; thinking it MIGHT have towed my trailer better. But I'll never know, and I'm happy with my rig as it is.

This is what I've being hearing also, I'm leaning more toward the 4.10 because I don't want to limited myself and even though the TT that I'm planning on getting will be well within the limit of both but just in case I might go more I will have the truck to tow. Thank you Camper_bob for your comment.

Get the 4.10 as it will help make up for the really tall 2nd gear. I wish Ram would have offered the 6.4 with 4.56 gears as I would have bought one instead on my Ecoboost.

Here is a ratio breakdown, basic torque output to the rear wheels and was ultimately the reason I ended up with an Ecoboost instead of the Ram. As you can see 1st and 2nd gear in the Ram are both a little high and spread too far apart. My point of this isn't to shine light on the Ecoboost, rather I am trying to show you the importance of getting the 4.10 rear end. Its unfortunate that Ram used the 66RFE behind the 6.4 as the gear ratios of that transmission are really designed for the Cummins. If Ram would have used the 8HP trans it would be a completely different ball game. Trust me though, I spend every day wishing I had a Ram......they just build better trucks than Ford.

Ram 6.4 66RFE Trans w/ 3.73 rear end. 429ft.lbs @ 4,000RPM

-------Ratio TQ
1st-- 3.23--5168
2nd--1.84--2944
3rd-- 1.41--2256
4th-- 1.00--1600
5th-- .816--1296
6th-- .625--1000

'14 F150 Eco 6R80E Trans w/ 3.73 rear end 420ft.lbs @ 2,500RPM

1st-- 4.17--6530
2nd--2.34--3664
3rd-- 1.52--2380
4th-- 1.14--1785
5th-- .86-- 1346
6th-- .69-- 1080

Big 1, I ordered this truck, and chose the 4.10. My thought is that I'm going down in torque from the cummins, so I figure if get the better towing gear to help offset that as much as possible. I can tell you that it sure goes from 0 to fast with ease. At 85 mph it's running an impressive 2,000-2,050 rpm. Tach goes to 7,000 with no red line. My own opinion, 4.10 is the way to go.

That being said, I can not hardly get the mds to kick on unless I am going 65 mph or downhill. This may be normal, but it's possible the rpms are too high at 70-75 for the mds to come on.

I ordered the 20" wheels. First time there for me and I like the way they look.

I hope this helps.

Awesome, I love it because I have being buying all of my truck that have the 20' and will get them on this truck, the trucks that I have being looking at have to 18' and I told them that I will be will to exchange my 20' for those 18'.

This was taken about over and year ago and I still have these wheel that I don't want to get rid of them.

This towing my wife Lincoln MKX that we just bought, towing it back home from OR.

Hey Tgallagher, I wanted to ask from the time you order your truck how long did it take to come to the dealer?

Congrats on a great looking truck! I had a 2012 2500 with the 5.7 that i used to tow a Jeep around the Southeast. Jeep and trailer were ~8500 pounds. It did just fine.

I traded it for a 3500 Cummins when we moved to Colorado last year. Two things stick out for me. The Cummins gets the job done with a lot less RPM's. More relaxing/comfortable tow. But more importantly the exhaust brake on the Cummins is awesome. Coming down the mountain passes on I-70 i don't have to even use the brake pedal...

Anyway, just my observations. The Rams are great trucks all-around in my mind.

Yeah, I would love a Cummins in a matter of fact I just got done looking at some, but trying to convince the wife will be kine of hard. The Cummins is another beast in all by itself.

I went through the same thing. My budget committee (DW) put the brakes on the Cummins pretty quick. Of course, if money were no issue I would LOVE to have had the diesel. But with my usage pattern (short commute, daily driver, towing under limit, and only avg once a month) it just didn't work out. IMO, these trucks need to be pushed. For me it would be like buying a pure bred race horse and just putting it out to graze on fallow land.

But I still leer longingly at them when I see them out on the road. DW smacks my arm and says "Stop drooling at that truck, you'll give your truck a complex!" Then I just lovingly pat my steering wheel and say to myself "nope, you're just fine sweetheart" LOL!

Funny, but so true and I'm like you I don't have nothing heavy that I tow everyday or even once a month, I just go to church and back home again. The wife and I are planning on getting a TT but right now I'm good to go.

I have being trying to get the 2016 2500 6.4L and it seem like that nobody want to sale me one, the dealership here wanted to get me five thousand dollars less that what I own and sale me their truck for over among for what they paid for so I told them okay thank you so much and left.

So I call Dave Smith hoping that they will work with me so I fill out a credit app and they said I'm good to go and when I call they not their and they don't return my call. So I will try another dealership and see if they want my money.
