We drive a Class C, and I can't back up a yard cart behind my mower so I know nothing about the subject, but the January 2019 issue of Car and Driver has a comparison test of Ford, Chevy and Ram, all towing 6000 lb trailers. You may find it interesting.

Thanks for all the replies I am going to pull the trigger on a 2019 High Country Dually without the factory hitch and install a B&W for my Companion hitch. I like the looks of the 19 over the 20 the dealer said it will be in by late March so that will give me time to get everything ready for the first outing in mid to late April. Now I can start looking at all the toys to add on once it gets here.

I just purchased a 2019 Chevy 3500 DRW and pull a 40 ft. toybox. It is a nice change from my 2005 Chevy 2500 SRW that I pulled it with before the newest generation Duramax is a beast compared to previous years. I read that Alison is changing to a 10 speed from the 6 speed. I am a bit leary about that because it will need to change the gear ratios to accommodate and the more frequent gear changes only leads to more wear in my opinion. I'm sure the reason is to achieve greater mpg and they should achieve that but it still has everything to dio with your individual driving habits. Just my .02. Love the new truck ..!! I'm sure a FORD fan or DODGE fan would say similar favorable opinions on their choice as well. They all make a pretty good rig anymore ..!

The 3500 has monstrous torque and pulls my TT with ease. The stability of the dual wheels is rock solid. I could take a nap while towing it's so easy and relaxed.

Similar story. We upgraded to the 18 3500HD D/A SRW Denali from a 02 2500HD 8.1/Allison this year after pulling our new Jayco Talon a couple times and the ride is night and day. I used to play a shifting game going up the hills with the old truck. The new Duramax is almost boring to drive because it is so powerful and nothing phases it.

2019 Chevy 3500 HD LTZ

I bought a 2018 Jayco Pinnacle 36SSWS last about a month ago and a 2019 Chevy 3500 LTZ long bed dually to pull it with. You don't even know it's back there! I traded a 2016 2500 LTZ Duramax in on the 2019 3500 LTZ Duramax dually. I never thought I would own a dually, especially a long bed but now that I have experienced towing a 16,000 lb 5th wheel with it, it's the only way to go. It's a 4WD crewcab.

GM DRW Commentw

I traded from a 2011 Chevy DRW to a 2018 GMC DRW Duramax Allison in March 2018. It is quite a difference in pulling power. The new design Duramax that GM came out with in 2017 was quite an improvement. It has the 445hp and 910 Lbs torque. The new engine is quieter than before. I tow 2016 Pinnacle 38FLSA model and it tows beautifully with the new truck. We winter in AZ and this truck got about 1 mpg better than the 2011 Duramax. I got 11.2 mpg and the Pinnacle is 16,000 lbs. so that was good news to me. I highly recommend the DRW as it makes towing very solid and secure. Previously had a 2001, 2005, and 2011 Chevy DRW and all have performed great.

Yes, I did have trouble with the DEF. I had around 19K on it and the DEF went wacky. I showed that the fluid was about to run out and I was going to be throttled down. I was out of warranty (over the 36mos) but I had an extended warranty that paid for the repair. The heater in the tank stayed on and goofed up the whole system. The repairs were around $500.00 but my Ext Warranty paid for it. I was in Las Vegas at the time. No further problems after that. I only had 27K on the truck when I bought the new Denali.

My acted up at 11,000 miles the first time and then at 24,000 at 32,000 miles (35 months old) problems again on the way to get the new camper at 35,000 problems again but the dealer covered it for the last time because of the years. In the spring the DEF fell off and it has been great since..

I haven't read all the replies here. But I have spent considerable time daily driving and towing every perceivable combination of the Chevy/GMC HDs. A dually is more stable towing, hands down.

They have their disadvantages though in daily driving and getting around. But if it's a dedicated tow vehicle and money is not the object, then I'd go dually all day long.

I just traded my 2015 2500 Denali to a 2019 3500 High Country drw. I have not towed my 40 ft Seismic toy hauler yet by I anticipate it will do great. I am amazed at the ride, turning radius and quickness on the new truck. I loved my 2015 and it handled a 4000 mile Yellowstone trip but I was over on payload. Congratulations on the new truck I think you will love it!
