2019 Chevy 3500 Dually

I have been looking around to see if anyone is pulling with the new 3500 Chevy Dually to see how it pulls from your old tow vehicle. I am looking at upgrading in the spring.

Thanks for your help

I will be shopping around myself shortly. Don’t think I’m going dually but my advice would be to wait for the 2020 models if your set on Chevy. Complete redesign along with new engine and tranny. Supposed to be substantial increases to both towing and payload numbers.

This is dependent on how you feel about the looks of the new front grill. I’m still not sure how I feel about it yet.

What was the old TV that you're looking for comparison to?

I went to a '17 SRW from an '11 F350 DRW and I like the Chev on every level over the Ford (except my mirrors don't power extend)

2011 SRW 3500 Chevy the camper is heavy 2017 Pinnacle with front bath. The old TV pulls it great but looking for a bigger footprint on the ground.

Fully loaded and fueled I'm at the payload limit of the SRW with our fiver with 3300# on the pin. I'll remove stuff from the trailer before I'll switch back to a DRW.

This truck will be for towing only and not my daily driver. The 2011 has 44,000 and has never see the salt or the other stuff they spray on the roads IF they think it might freeze.

We're on the road for 5 months in the winter. The SRW works better for our use then. The dually was too fat on some of the trails/roads and ended up with mesquite scars

That is why it will be a 2019 I do not like the looks. Everything I have had has been a 1.. 01,11 and now it looks to be a 19 the 2020 does not look good to me.

I'm not a GM guy and will not be buying one anytime soon. However, I wouldn't reject the upcoming model based on looks no matter how bad they are. You can guarantee that it will be a step forward in capability and function as compared to the outgoing model. And, I don't have to look at it while I'm driving it.

I bought a 2018 (3500 Duramax Dually) last Jan in preparation for a 5th wheel. Right now I have a 32' TT that I pulled with a 1500. So, with my limited experience pulling just 6500 lbs I can't tell you about pulling 7 or 8 tons. I have found that the difference in the two trucks is huge. The 3500 has monstrous torque and pulls my TT with ease. The stability of the dual wheels is rock solid. I could take a nap while towing it's so easy and relaxed.

Ford fan that last really happy with 18 Duramax Dually. Tows 10k 36 ft bumper pull no problem. Also daily driven in Atlanta traffic happily, plenty of power and super comfortable.

My 01 was a daily driver but after 10 years and 180,000 mile the body was rusting away and sold it for good money yet. The 2011 was just a tow vehicle and has never been drove in the winter and was going to be around for many years till the new camper came along. Like I said earlier in a post it has plenty of power and pulls the camper well I am looking at the bigger footprint on the ground. My son will be buying the 2011 for his camper so I will still be able to see it for years to come. The wife said we will be getting a new camper and truck before we retire. So maybe by then the looks will change again.

Thanks for the replies

FyI. The 2020 will be the same tranny and motor as the current model. It will likely have higher payload and trailer pulling numbers. I agree the pictures of the 2020 are hideous. The interior is close to the current model so no major changes to make my want to go for the 2020. If the 2019 model has what you need as far as capability, capacity I would stick with that option. Another option is to look at the 2020 GMC vision. I've got a 2017 gmc 3500 hd srw. I pull a 2018 north point 377rlbh with it. I have no regrets. I'm right at my payload rating but to buy some better handling I opted for onboard air with airbags. I cant stand DRW. They pull and haul great but get to your camp spot and unhook to go look around and life sucks. As for the L5P dirtymax. Its freaking amazing. I'm out west so to go anywhere we have to go over MT's. That truck pulls my 16k trailer loaded up over 5, 6, 7% graded at 60+ mph no problem. Pulling my TRL I get just about 10mpg on the flats and who cares pulling hills. Empty I'm all of 22 to 23 all day long. The DRW you will likely be upper teens not pulling and 7 to 8 pulling. Extra tires equals more rolling resistance. My SRW is plenty stable on the road in the wind or passing supper truckers. It was a bit uncomfortable before the airbags but with them it's great. Just something to think on.

My Statefarm agent chided me when he found out I was going to pull a northpoint 5th wheel without it being a dually. He claimed that I would be sorry when I encountered winds while pulling my RV. He was so wrong as I completed more that 20 rv parks and many of the travels included high winds from all directions. The silverado 3500 diesel did not encounter any stability problems and I am glad I did not buy a dually. Less gas milage and try to park it w/o the 5th wheel without finding the dually fenders scratched.

I upgraded from 2008 GMC 2500 HD with Duramax Diesel to 2018 GMC 3500 HD SRW in Feb 2018. Pulling a 2016 Jayco Pinnacle. The 2018 Duramax had substantial increases in HP and Torque and I could really tell a difference from my 2008 Duramax. On one trip we were traveling between Flagstaff and Phoenix, AZ where I-17 has as much as a 6% grade. Downshifted to 5th gear and pulled the Pinnacle at 50-55 MPH uphill without any problems. I was impressed.

I have no regrets on my SRW. The airbags simply make it even nicer. I would say if your looking to full time it okay maybe the DRW is the way to go. But as a weekend warrior with a few long trips from time to time the SRW is more then plenty of truck. Mine Isnt mt daily driver either but I kinda wish it was. Now I've got the gmc 3500hd Denali. I was a bit sceptical with 3000+ hitch weight. But it didnt squatt really at all it just leveled the truck out. Now if you plan to put a toolbox or aux fuel tank in go for the DRW. I've had both and will take an SrW about 90% of the time over the DRW. That said I always upgrade to the highest weight capacity tire I can get, level the front, and airbag the back. But I do this with SRW or DRW. They look better, and feel better to me. FyI the OE tires are your payload limiting factor on an SRW. Go up 1 size and you get 800lbs more capacity. Dont seem like much but I went from 50lbs over my tire capacity to 750 under it. It's a big difference

chevy 3500

I pull with a 2018 GMC 3500HD Duramax SINGLE rear wheels (35' bumper pull).
I used to pull with a 2010 Chevy 3500HD Duramax SINGLE rear wheel. The

2018 Duramax is leaps and bounds better than the 2010. With the weight of a 5th wheel, I would go dually, but my bumper pull is great with singles, but I think you were asking about the Duramax/Allison. Get one you'll love it!!
