2019 Jayco NP 377RLBH Tow vehicle

I am waiting to take delivery of my 2019 377RLBH. I will be upgrading from a Coachman Chaparral 360IBL. The jury will be out on how my vehicle does. I currently towing with 2004 Ford F-350 Crew Cab 6.0 Powerstroke. I am not worried about the power of it, but the overall weights. (I may be a bit over) I have read some of the threads with people who are towing with duallys. I donk think that is in the picture at the moment.
In the mean time, 7 more days until I get it!

Congrats and welcome to JOF! I'm sure that those who have the 377RLBH will chime in and let you know.

I think that those who tow them will said that the duelly will be more sable but what is your payload?

Congrats on the new rig! You will love the 377 RLBH. It’s been our full time and only 5er for almost 3 years. We tow with a 2007.5 Dodge 3500 MC dually 4x2 with 6.7 Cummins for almost 27K miles now and it’s absolutely been wonderful. I wanted a 1 ton SRW at first, but read up and have been told the dually is best for most stable at towing heavy pin weights, along with more rubber on the road to stop, and safety, in case a tire might blow. Our 377 pin weight is a tad over 4K. I’ve no experience what a SRW 1 ton might feel like, but if your payload can handle 4K, then I’d say your fine with it. My dually’s payload is rated at 3050 lbs, and with a rear axle rating of 9350 lbs(3750 empty), seems way low for a dually, yet it doesn’t squat like others. An option that’s cheaper than upgrading to a new dually, is to look into converting yours into a dually. A rough guesstimate maybe 5K? But before I’d do that, I’d upgrade your 377s drum brakes to disc brakes. Makes a huge difference in stopping power with any vehicle.

Keep fresh rear tires whatever you do and make sure they are rated to handle your total axle weight when fully loaded, so you’ll need to step on a scale with the new rig to see where you’re at. Also, get a TPMS to monitor all your rolling tires as piece of mind. I’ve already suffered two bad valve stems on the outer duallys in th last 6 months.

2019 Jayco NP 377RLBH Tow vehicle

Congrats on your new 377! You’re going to love it.

The North point 377 will be heavier than the Chaparral. What is the payload capacity of the truck? The pin weight on the 377 is listed at 2855 pounds. Add propane, a couple batteries, maybe a generator, hitch itself and you will easily be 3200 lbs or more.

As far as the truck, I used to tow my 377 with an 06 F350 dually. It was fine for most of the time but felt really underpowered when we traveled to the mountains. Going up steep grades was always at a slow speed. My 6.0 was bulletproofed and I had it running like a top but it just didn’t pull the trailer as well as the 6.7 I have now. Now, when I go to the mountains, I can maintain speed up the grades (could even accelerate). It’s a night and day difference.

My advice is to hitch up and take it out for your shakedown trip at a nearby campground. You’ll quickly realize the 377 is a beast of a trailer and you need a truck to handle it. Also, a trip to the scales will be very informative. Good luck!

We tow with an F350 SRW. The 5th is a bit shorter and lighter than your 377 and the last visit to the scales showed the 5th at 12700# with 3200# on the pin. While our SRW tows fine I am close to maxing the rear axle (about 500# or so IIRC).
I feel the 377 is pretty solid in dually country but if a bigger TV isn’t in the picture then you’ll make do with what you have. I’d suggest a trip to the scales to get an accurate understanding of your weights.
Enjoy your new 377, they look great and those that have them really love em.

My plan is try the shake down cruise when I pick it up this coming weekend. It’s about a half hour ride home and to the campground I’ll be using it at in a couple weeks. Let’s see how it goes.

Here it is! I took it home today. The tow went ok overall. The truck didn’t squat much more than the other camper. However, the hitch weight is noticeable with the rear end. It was a bit more bouncy and could feel it on the rear of truck.

Add some helper springs/air bags and let her rip, a good custom tow tune goes a loooong way too, especially if bullet-proofed, I've got several from various people, and all are completely different in capabilities and driveability, with my favorite being from Gearhead. All being substantially better than the standard SCT tow file. I've also got a powermax drop in turbo (with the crappy slow to spool original cast wheel) and it does great, would be even better with the billet wheel or like a KC stage 2R turbo, just some easy upgrades that go a long way. I tow a 2016 339FLQS, not quite the weight of the 377, but I tow with an 06 F250 6.0L(so a SRW), 35inch tires, 3.73 gears, and ride rite air bags, I'm very satisfied

So as an update to this, I ended up buying a 3500DRW. My F350 towed it reasonably, but I was concerned with the braking power of the truck with that much weight. It just doesn’t stop like the newer ones do. I’ll post another update soon.

Congrats on the new truck. I think you made the right decision
