22 Ford Maverick

I had a Maverick, and it didn't look like this. Why can't Ford find another name for their vehicles? Sheesh.

Anyhoo...here ya go.

I sure don't know what they are thinking. We had a Maverick car in the 70's and it sure doesn't bring back good memories.

The Bride owned a ‘72 Maverick when we married. It had the Grabber trim with a 302 and auto. Fun car to drive and I ran the wheels off of it, rebuilt the engine and tranny and it was fun for a few more years.

i had an old maverick with a three in the tree... now that was a car! and i had a 77TA at the time so the maverick was my winter beater... and it was yellow same as my TA, so a buddy an i painted a screaming chickin on it and even t-tops.. good times.. my dad was furious... looking back it was good fun... we sold it to a gal and she rolled it that winter... lots of stories from that pile.. including a stuck throttle during a snow storm.. that was fun to drive home.. start it drop the clutch let it get to about 4k then shut it off and do it over and over again hoping not to hit red lights.. made it home... ahhhh yea the good ol days....

this should be called something lamer... how about lame horse

It seems the manufacturers have completely ran out of new names, so they're recycling the old ones. Maverick, Bronco, Charger, Challenger, etc. No imagination on their part at all....

Totally agree. All the other manufacturers do it, why can't Ford?

Americans have been screaming for a low cost, no frills small pickup truck for a decade now. The new Maverick fits that bill and will be hugely successful. I guess they could've called it "Betsy" but I doubt that would've gone over well. My grandpa had a '64 Maverick with an inline 6 and 3 on the tree and that car couldn't get out of it's own way, lol. James Garner would be proud of the new truck.

I'm thinking since Ford isn't making cars anymore, the name was up for grabs...

True. The Mustang is he only car they make that's not classified as an SUV or truck. They could've brought back the "F100"!

Yeah...Ford's done (for now) with cars. Putting all their efforts into SUV's and trucks. The Fusion, Focus, Taurus & Fiesta are over.

Interesting new vehicle, that can be flat-towed. Wish it was plug-in hybrid but it still looks like an incredible vehicle. My 2010 Fusion Hybrid is still in the family having gone from me to my son, and then to my granddaughter. Has over 140,000 on it. Have had the battery reconditioned. I'd like to believe this truck would match that. The name is bad but I guess companies reuse names on purpose. It is not truly a truck given that it's on a unibody frame. It will do everything folks want from it and if there is a need for heavy-duty, they'll buy that instead.

And if they come out with an even smaller version they can call it the Pinto (again). Just make it electric so it doesn’t turn into a fireball like the originals. Giving new cars the same names as lousy originals makes no sense. I know, I had a Mustang II fastback.

LOL! A Pinto! If it was electric, it could go up like a Tesla machine...

Not expressly pertinent to the new Maverick (though I don't have an issue with the name, and would imagine many buyers will be young enough not to have any recall of the earlier car), I'm waiting for a pickup with a bed height that doesn't require a stepladder to access. Especially from the side.

You’ll get one when they bring back the Ranchero!

Maybe. I agree they are recycling some of the old names. GM did the same thing for a while with the likes of the Impala. Ford, I think, is doing a poor job of it. An "E" Mustang? Maverick compact pickup? What's next a new Galaxie? How about a Falcon? Chrysler on the other hand has done a outstanding job paying homage to their heritage. I think their only misstep was the Dart. Personally, I'd like to see Ma Mopar bring out a new 'Cuda. I doubt they will though as that was the Plymouth version of the Challenger. I have seen some one off artists concept of a Charger Daytona and it looked wild. I'd love to see that.
