27RL and 2014 F150 EcoBoost MAX TOW

I have a 2014 F150 EcoBoost Super Crew with Max Tow package (11,100 lb trailer rating). I use a 10,000 pound Equal-I-Zer hitch on my setup with a 264BHW (4,800 lb dry, 6,500 GVWR).
I am looking at the 27RL (5,755 lb dry, 7,000 lb GVWR) and wondering if anyone out there thinks this would be an adequate tow vehicle. I am also adding a Roadmaster Active Suspension, whether I keep my current trailer or get the 27RL.

I know....dead horse...but I appreciate the feedback! It really helped in my evaluation for my first trailer!

The weights you listed appear to be fine for the TV, but the length of 31' would be a concern IMO. The longer the trailer, the bigger the "sail" you have tugging on the TV.

I do know what you mean there. The one I currently have is 29 1/2 ft and the is is about exactly two feet longer. It is not super fun on a windy day, but ordinarily there is no issue. If it's that windy, it's sitting.

I have the same truck and essentially the same trailer, and the same hitch. It's a great match. My trailer is 30'6" from tongue to bumper, weighs 5500lb empty and 7500lb GVWR. It usually sits around 6800lbs loaded up to camp. My tongue weight is about 900lbs with 2 batteries on the tongue. I run 7 washers in my Equalizer 10K and it has been verified at the CAT scales that 100% of the front axle weight has been returned (hitched and unhitched front axle weights are equal). I have run this set-up for coming up on 5 seasons and it has been fantastic. Thousands of miles, never a white knuckle moment ever.

I also have RoadMaster Active Suspension and LT tires, upgraded shocks & brakes and a Roush tune. I am sometimes (depending on what I bring along) about 100lbs over my 1700lb payload but that doesn't concern me, and I'm within all the rest of my limits. RAWR on the truck is one to watch - I am within 20-30lbs of my 4050lb rating when I carry tools and firewood and whatever else in the bed.

I think you will not have any issues with that 27RL at all, if you take the time to set up your hitch properly. I also travel with a wife, 2 kids in car seats, and a 85lb dog in the cab, and stroller/wagon/etc in the bed. Yes, these MaxTow trucks are beasts but that being said, if I ever bought a trailer larger/heavier than my current one, I would also need a bigger truck. Lucky I love them both and will for years to come!

Thanks, Sky! How do you think your truck does with the Roadmaster vs without?

As you said, if I ever looked at anything bigger, I'd be looking at the F250 or F350. Don't see that happening anytime soon.

After I installed the RAS, I noted that the rear end of the truck came up just under an inch. That was part of my plan, since I had already lifted the front up and wanted just a tad more in the back.

Upon first drive, I immediately noticed the reduction in body roll while cornering. This was without the trailer or any load. It cornered much more confidently.

I had to crank up the springs a couple of times during the first season because the spring does stretch some as it settles in. I initially used the white disc setting (lower setting) but eventually decided to go up to the black disc (higher setting). I haven't checked to see if the spring has stretched anymore in the past couple years, but I'll get it up on jacks this summer and see how it is.

As far as towing is concerned, I'm sure it does help, but the rear end will still squat some. After all, it is still 1/2 ton suspension back there. I do really like them though. I can't even really remember what towing without them felt like.

On a side note ...Can I ask what your gas mileage is when towing?

We get between 9 and 11 mpg depending on grade changes and how much stop and go we have to do.

Towed my old trailer in to the dealer today and what a difference the Roadmaster Active Suspension made!! Couldn't be happier! Really a huge difference in turns. Highway ride feels much nicer. Not once did I have the porpoise action. Never a big issue with these things, as the truck can tow plenty easily, BUT, anything to enhance the ride is always nice! I didn't get to take my new trailer away today. I had purchased the ladder option, but it was not on the back. No biggie. Pick up in a week or so.
Can't use it till end of April anyway. The dealer, Hilltop in Fridley MN, was FANTASTIC as always!!! They made things right, to say the least, with some extras. There's a reason we came back to them to trade the 2017 in!
