That's a LOT of trailer for a half-ton. Almost 9000# wet with an almost 800# tongue weight is also a recipe for the tail to wag the dog. It doesn't meet the 10% of the trailer's GVWR on the tongue. Add the length (33+ feet) to the relatively light tongue weight, and you may get blown around a lot. A 3/4 ton chassis, wheels and tires will be substantially "stiffer" to resist the wiggle. A half ton's tires and suspension are softer, and the WDH may disperse the load, but the soft tires and suspension won't resist the wiggle as well as a stouter tire and stiffer springs will.

It also seems likely that you'll travel heavy if you are consistently traveling with another adult who has her own needs and expectations for comfort, clothing, and so on.

I'd suggest more truck or less trailer.

You're looking for a "double-bed" width bunk room. This might fill the bill with far less weight and a somewhat shorter length that will fit your F-150 well. https://www.jayco.com/products/trave...-slx-8/242bhs/

I have a 2015 32BHDS being towed by a 2015 Nissan NV3500 SL with no issues. Yes gas sucks at 8-9 mpg but thats why were having fun also.

I'll second this suggestion. I tow a 7700 lb GVWR camper with my F150 and it does well but the camper is 28' tung to tail. Your looking at a camper that's about a ton more and four more feet. If you equip an F150 properly, it will tow this camper but you'll probably know it's there.

On the other hand, if you get a 3/4 ton truck, you'll be hauling an extra ton around every day you drive the thing. Your fuel mileage will be significantly worse. If you do an occasional camping trip but mostly use your truck as a daily driver, the poor mileage will get old quickly.

I looked at the 28BHS you are considering just this last spring. I liked the layout and figured the bunk beds might be useful for a guest if I removed the top bunk. It would be claustrophobic for our guest however and a PIA to make. OK for kids in sleeping bags but not so great for adults. For the rare occasions we might have a guest, I figured that using the dinette drop-down table as a bed would work better and bought a 24RBS instead. This is a bit smaller and lighter to tow. I'm very pleased with the compromise.

I'll add that the new 28BHS is longer and heavier than the older 28BHS. I have the original version which weights in at 5500lbs empty and 7500lbs GVWR, which is much lighter and a bit shorter than the new floor plan of the same name.

The old version is half ton friendly (if properly equipped) and the new one is not. I wouldn't pull anything bigger than I have right now with a half ton truck.

That makes more sense to me. As I recall when I looked at it last spring, it had the same GVWR as the 24RBS. There wasn't much capacity for provisions however. They must have beefed up the frame and running gear to handle more weight.

My sticker says dry weight is 7310lbs(I know this is prob not exactly right, just wanted to give a comparison) and GVWR is 8550lbs so it has changed a bit over the years. I'm guessing the bigger slide and total length, and possibly a heavier frame to accommodate the above.

It's a completely different floor plan than my 28BHS. I don't even know why it's called that really. It's the same floor plan as the Eagle 284BHOK which I want to buy next, and will be pulling with a F-350 diesel.

No issues with my 6.2 engine with 52k miles on it. I had a mechanic tell me there have been some issues with the cam phasers but it was rare.

I get about 11 mpg unloaded in mixed driving. Last year, we towed our camper to South Dakota. I-90 into a headwind across the entire state we got as low as 5 mpg. You really sacrifice fuel economy going to a larger camper and a larger truck.

I tow a 2013 WH DSBH- 28' box, 32' tongue to bumper. I wouldn't go any longer for a half ton. I'm about 6,800 fully loaded which is no problem for my '17 F150 3.5 EB CrewCab 4x4. I upgraded the truck with Bilstein struts F&R, leveled the front, have 34's E-rated and installed the RAS. The truck handles the trailer great, plenty of power, not much semi-suck and pretty stable even in mild winds. I'm sure a 3/4 ton would handle better, but for the 2k miles I tow per year I see no need to give up my F150. It's my daily driver so I really don't want to get a bigger truck. If I really wanted more stability I'd get a Hensley or ProPride before a bigger truck.
