2nd. GEN Dodge

Any towing with one?

I have a 2001 Ram 2500 4x4 that I pull our 24 footer with.
I installed a Banks tuner to help.

Was looking at newer ones but to darn expensive!

I had one up until a couple years ago when I broke down and bought a new ram 3500 cc srw. The 01 had 374k on the odometer, sold it to my bil for the family rate and it is still purring along. Difference is quite a bit but 15-16 years difference in drivetrain and other accroutment technology certainly made some significant leaps in that time period. However that being said my 01 did an admirable job towing what we had over the years including our current fifth wheel though I wouldn’t have wanted go much heavier. I had done quite a bit of work to the 01 to make it “better” over the years ( some mods that helped and some that did not) and to be honest while the new one is more capable etc I liked the 01 more, my favorite of all the vehicles I have owned. I had a real bond with that truck the new one is just a newer truck and I like it but not the same way as the 01.

I've got a 99 2500 quad cab long bed that I'm quite "bonded" to also. It's in "restoration" state right now. Body is gonna a get cured of the cancer and I built the engine and trans that I got about $25k into. Engine should be up around 1000 to 1200 hp and the trans is full billet. Engine was turning upward of 750hp before I tore it down.

It's been a fun project so far but it's been EXPENSIVE!
I want to stay with the vp44 injection pump but I'm torn on which one I'm gonna a put on it. I got a SO pump and a Dragonfire pump with stainless. 093 lines and delivery tubes that would feed 250hp DDP injectors. I just dont know what kind of street manners it would have and/or how bad of a lope.
Its going to be a truck you can drive to a show. I'm also trying to decide on electric fans or stay with the OEM clutch fan. Electrics you will be able to see more of the front of the engine where the clutch fan kinda hides it but I need the one that will perform to keep the engine cool and the CFM flowing thru the intercooler to keep the EGT's in check.
Lots of things to consider and research.

Didnt mean to hijack your thread.
I did use mine to tow with. Our first was a 34' 2004 Montana Mountaineer. If I remember right the trailer was a little overweight for the truck according to the towing specs but it handled it just fine. I have adjustable power settings so I can take it from mild to wild. I could tow in a low power setting and it did just fine. One thing that's a must install is a fuel pressure gauge. The weak link in the 2nd gens is the fuel pump that supplies the injection pump. Now that you've added some power to it another must install is an EGT probe in your exhaust manifold and a EGT gauge. A trans temp gauge is nice also. I got my gauges right up the A pillar.

Mine has 174000 miles.
I have replaced the lift pump and injector pump.

Transmission was replaced at about 165k with a Jasper rebuilt.

I replaced the cracked dash about 8 years .

Now the headliner needs to be replaced.

It's been a good truck and was mostly used for towing my offroad jeep but now it's our trailer.

I ran one of Diesel Dynamics Hot Rod VP-44's with a set of Super Mental injectors on my '01. It had a very heavy lope at idle but would smooth out right about 1000 RPM.

I towed with one before my current truck and loved it. My wife got tired of the 24v and my daughter got taller and wasn't very comfortable in the back. I would have rather rebuilt the engine and drove it another 10 years but that didn't happen.
