We have one and it seems to have a lot of tongue weight for it's size. More than the sticker says. we weighed ours loaded and it was 1200 lbs!! that was with bikes on back and one lp tank was empty. IDK what size hitch raing a 1/2 ton has but something to think about!!

I had no issues with the front wheels when towing, the truck rides pretty level to be honest when towing, was able to steer without any issues, I planned on loading the trailer more than the truck when going on a trip.

Dieselx what kind of mods did you do?

If your referring to a 32BHDS, a 1,200lb tongue weight would be considered in the normal range when one considers a 13% to 15% range (recommended) of the TT's loaded weight.

The sticker weights are based on an "unloaded" TT condition, basically as it was shipped from the factory.

The good thing is you know what you got and what you are up against. That puts you way ahead of most people pulling trailers. A good hitch like the Equalizer (for example) will help you keep your front end in correct balance with the backend even if you are overloaded.

Basic 32BHDS is 9,975, over your 9,600 already. Rear end for towing is usually 3.73. If you have a 5.0 max payload (people stuff in the bed and trailer tong weight) is 1,570, the 6.2 GWVR 7,770 WB 145 is 1,770. Think about 4 people average 140 = 560, stuff in the bed = 200 - 300, hitch 870, total 1630, wow 140 to spare. Still hope all the brakes work going down hill.

New truck and new trailer I highly doubt he'll have any increase chances of break failure over the rest of us given he knows how to tow using proper breaking.

Over in almost all the numbers! I guess safety isn't always first after all. It's not like we're all hauling cattle, we have our families in these trucks!!!!!!!
Oh well...to each his own I guess.

You'll like the F350. I love mine, plenty of torque and better mileage with the diesel.

That 3.55 rear end would be a killer for me. My Tundra has 4.30 rears and a six speed tranny which came with the factory tow package. The four wheel drive also takes away from the gross towing weight capacity figure around 1000 lbs.

Justin,

I agree, nice F-350......, and is on my short list as well. Ford has a great diesel with the 6.7L.

Congrats on the F350, a lot different to the F150!! Makes the F150 seem like a toy.

One thing to take a look at that not many have mentioned, is the specs for the reciever on the truck. I was suprised to see that the reciever on my F250 is only rated for 1250 lbs of tongue weight. I could be over that at Max GVWR of my trailer at 15% tongue weight (1275 lb @ 8500 lb max TT GVWR). I was suprised that the F150 had a reciever tongue weight rating of 1130 lbs so not that much more with the F250. I still need to be careful how I load and balance the trailer. It'll be interesting to get my rig weighed at a CAT scale to see where I'm at.

Does the Diesel give you a more beefy reciever?

When I was looking at the F-350's SRW's a couple of months ago, all the F-350 body styles came with the 1,750lb WD mode OEM receiver except the F-350 Supercab with the short box...., it came with the 1,250lb WD mode OEM receiver, didn't matter gasser or diesel.

I couldn't get anyone to tell me why, because the GVWR of 11,500lbs remained the same with all the F-350 SRW models.

I don't know how the F-250 OEM receiver's were spec'd (gasser/diesel).

Bob

On Edit: Checked my notes, and the F-350 6.7L Super Cab Short Box comes with a 2" OEM receiver not a 2.5" receiver..., that explains the rating difference but doesn't explain "why" when the GVWR's are the same with another body style.

My F-250 has the same hitch rated the same[via sticker on hitch]. The maximum tongue weight for my truck is 1450lbs. with weight distribution. { 2012 Ford towing guide }. In hindsight, I really should have considered an F-350 as it was not much more $. BTW, great looking truck.

I have a 2012 F-250 crew with the 6' 9" bed, diesel power and 3.55 gears. Not sure why a gasser hitch would be rated lower.
