Not sure either, but I'm sure it has something to do with weight distribution and drive train components and the type of hitch. Dually has a 2.5" reciever for instance accordint to the 2014 towing guide.

My F-250 has a 2.5 in receiver. Is yours a 2in? If so, that's the difference. I thought that all the newer heavy duty F series trucks had a 2.5in receiver whether gas or diesel.

(Sorry for my poor English I am French ) Hello here is my opinion ! We tow our 32 bhds with a F-150 s crew cab 5.0L 3:73. Equalizer 1200 lbs It tow it with ease ... Even up hill ... I came to this forum when I got the trailer to get some input but it seems that a lot off people here really like super big trucks.... If you already have your truck got to the RV dealer and ask him to try the trailer behind your truck.
You have to know that truck companies are very very conservative with the specs. It's a big trailer it is normal to feel it a bit behind your truck... Even better if you feel it this way you won't wreck it....

Just went out and measured just to make sure. Yep it is a 2" reciever. Seems the diesel's have a bigger hitch.

I towed my 32' Trailer with a weight distribution hitch with my half ton Nissan Titan. Plenty of power but I new it was back there, could feel the weight moving the trailer.

The heavier suspension of my new 1 ton truck tows much better and with the increased torque of diesel, the truck barely even notices the trailers back there.

Tim, make sure the part you're measuring on your hitch isn't the adapter. My 2012 came with a 2in removable adapter that inserts into the 2.5in receiver. To get the higher tongue rating on the hitch, you must upgrade to a 2.5in hitch bar or "shank" as it's called.

You made me take a second look!! I remembered what looked like 2 layers of metal, but it is just the way the hitch is made.



There is a ring at the end of the reciever to add strength but no insert. It is a 2" reciever.
