About my Super Duty 6.7

I bought my F350 in anticipation of purchasing our 5th and have found it to be a very capable TV. My first pickup and first diesel and I love it!
The point of my post is while I do love the truck it has not been completely trouble free.
My first “big” issue was a clogged EGR cooler. I researched doing the work myself but the Bride talked me out of it and I took it to a local shop that had a diesel tech. During removal he broke both bolts that connect it to the exhaust manifold, which is a common problem. So a new cooler, manifold and $2400 later I was back in business.

The other “big” problem turned out to be thankfully pretty minor. Driving around town I heard a pretty loud pop and felt the truck lurch. My first thought was I’d been bumped by another vehicle but the truck immediately lost power and ran really rough. The CEL came on and I noticed the boost gauge was on zero. I nursed it back to the house and read the codes which pointed to the turbo, I’d already convinced myself that it had failed. Rather than researching to verify I took it to the dealer and resigned myself to a BIG repair bill.
Turns out the return air pipe from the intercooler (which is PLASTIC) had failed. Dealer said the OEM replacement would be back ordered and take some time to get. But, if I wanted, they would install a metal after market pipe. Yes!
I got the truck back for a few hundred rather than a few thousand. Was a job that I could have easily done but I’m not complaining at all.

A blend motor failed and replacing it required removing the dash. I did that one myself and it was surprisingly easy but required moving the front seats and console to get it out. I replaced all of the blend motors while I had it apart.

My last event was one of the power folding mirrors quit working. Plastic gears! Ford’s solution is to buy a new mirror. A bit of research turned up Gruven Parts (gruvenparts.com) who offer replacement gears (brass) and motor. Disassembly was a bit of a challenge due to the many hidden clips holding the shell pieces together. Thanks to their pretty good instructions and a couple of YouTube vids, one of which suggested using guitar picks to help release the clips, I was able to get it apart without breaking anything. Reassembly was easier. The mirror now works great.

Apologies for the lengthy post but I just felt like sharing.
Stay safe and have a merry Christmas!

Sounds like you hit all of the main issues with the 6.7. Hopefully you're out of the woods now, and can enjoy the truck and all it offers.

Those EGR bolts are a pain! I haven't done them myself - but watched plenty of videos about them.

Powerstroke Tech Talk w/ARod used a really slick tool made specifically for these EGR bolts (when they break). He's got a ton of great videos on Youtube, check it out if you haven't already.

One last bit of friendly advice, stay up on regular maintenance, especially the fuel filters (every 15k). I'm bolding that because its that important.

The other known problem area is the CP4 high pressure fuel pump (which is another multi-thousand dollar repair when it goes). Fresh, good clean fuel is the best preventative. Additives can help add lubricity to help the pump last, and of course you'll find mixed reviews on several brands. I'm personally using Power Service Diesel Kleen.

How many miles on the truck? My 6.7 was flawless during the time I had it.

The filters get changed often, they’re easy. I’ve read about the high pressure fuel pump issues and I’m using diesel Kleen. Don’t recall where I heard about it tho, maybe JOF.

I found a/rod’s youtubes and the ProMAXX tool while trying to decide if I wanted to tackle the cooler.

My dad's 2011 was not so 'trouble free'...spun a main bearing at 66,000 miles, just 6 months out of warranty. $10k later....

Fast forward to 2019, he is really liking his new 2019 Platinum.

His first diesel was a 2000 7.3L...he put 400k on that truck before selling it.

And I’ll bet it is still running strong!

Power stroke, Cummins, and Duramax all use the same pos CP4 pump.
I use Power Service Diesel Kleen also. Just dont overdose it because you'll end up with different problems, emissions issues.

If the cp4 pump failure scares you for a couple hundred buck buy and install a disaster prevention kit. It will save the injectors if the pump fails.

I use the same Power Diesel Kleen, I just start using it but how do you use it, do you put some in every fill up or every other fill up or how?

We switched to Ford's Power Stroke Diesel Cetane Booster & Performance Improver which we purchase from the Ford Dealership. For us, it cuts down on the regen.

When I had my 6.7L PSD, I used Diesel clean with every fill up. Grey bottle in summer, white bottle in winter.
