Advice: Best 5th wheel hitch for Silverado 3500 and Northpoint 310RLTS
Hello all, just upgraded from a 2017 F250 short box with bed rails to a 2022 Silverado 3500SRW short box with OEM pucks. Looking for advice on best 5th wheel hitch for my Northpoint 310RLTS. Was towing with a B&W Patriot rail mounted slider in the Ford with good results, but that won't work with the pucks obviously.
Some thoughts:
I'd like to stay with B&W unless someone has a unicorn I'm not aware of.
No auto sliders, we camp at too many state parks with random angles of connection.
Questions:
Best hitch for bed clearance and camper angle?
Do I really need a slider? Seeing reports that B&W sliders interfere with tailgate when slid to the rear. I never slid the Patriot in a year of towing. Only one situation when I should have, and I just muscled through it with care.
Does anyone have a tonneau cover with their setup? Thinking about a Retrax Pro.
Anything else I'm missing?
Thanks in advance, appreciate everyone's experience.

I’ve got a 19’ Chevy and use a B&W patriot fixed hitch with an Eagle. 3 years in and never wished I had a slider. I think the front of your North Point is cut similar to my Eagle and you have a slightly longer bed than I do. We do mostly state parks. Don’t know if it’s “the best”, but works great for me. I am diligent backing with it, but never an issue so far. The hitch plate is adjustable for and aft. I keep it in the furthest aft position. Maybe 4” of adjustability, but don’t recall exactly.

You'll get a plethora of suggestions. I use B&W.

I’ve had good service from my B&W. If you want to stay with B&W give them a call, they may sell the base separately.

Agree!
Also you may need to triple check the measurements on any bed cover. We had a tri fold and had to exchange it for a roll up due to clearance issues.

I've had B&W, Trailer Saver, Reese and maybe a few others thru the years. They all worked well. The Trailer Saver was the best but you pay for it, big time. Removing the hitch got to be an issue for me so for the past 2 years we've had the Reese Goosebox. I had no idea what I was missing. One small ball to remove from my bed and the ride it gives is as good as we've had. Just an outside the box thought.
I bought a BakFlip Revolver X2 for a 2017 we had and transferred it when we got our 2020. It works really well and I think it is easier to roll up than it was to flip panels. With the X2 rolled up I still have plenty of visibility out my rear window.

Yes, I agree, I had two but sold them, it wasn't because I didn't like them they were great I just wanted something a little lighter but now since I have a LB if I had to do over again I would get the B&W non-slider.

For a standad bed 2020 crew cab srw 3500 silverado. No clearance issues. X2 on a trailer saver TS3. Bought a used like new one for $800. In the mirror I can watch the 5er float over the big bumps that are quite jarring in the TV. Downsides. It is around #280#, reduces your payload, and not something you will easily remove or install by yourself if you use your truck bed for other things. Quite pricey , around 3k if you buy a new one.

Thanks to all for the advice. Went with the B&W Companion non-slider. (BTW, B&W did not offer a separate base for my old hitch for anyone looking at this in the future)

That’s interesting. I was thinking about replacing my non-slider puck mount with a slider puck-mount. I called B&W and they would sell me just the base. That’s been at least a year tho. Didn’t switch, still have the non-slider.
Thanks for your feedback!

I think it was more that I had a Patriot before and was going to the Companion. They didn’t make a puck mounted base for the Patriot. Guessing it wouldn’t have been a problem if my original hitch was the Companion.

looks like an ad for B&W
I like my Anderson Ultimate.
Contrary to what some one will say, it does not void the pin box warranty from Mor-Ryde.
We do a lot of Back Road Boondocking and hitching back up on level and flat is sometimes impossible.
Anderson give a lot of articulation and it only weighs 35lbs. easy to remove and re-install.
Do not bother will slamming my descension all your bad mouthing will not change my mind

Agree…there will be several preferences. I went with a Pullrite SuperGlide for my F-350 shortbed with the puck system. Pull a 16,000 lb. Pinnacle. Very satisfied. Easy to use and allows me to turn at a right angle if needed with no worry about contact with the cab. I also bought a special, low profile 5th wheel tool box that is integrated with a tonneau cover. Again, very convenient because I do not have to roll the tonneau cover back to lock/unlock/access the toolbox. It is also waterproof. Keeps the hitch out of the weather when unhitched.

We went from a Husky to a Curts slider on our GMC, night and day difference.

I love my Demco Hijacker. I can do 90° turns with my 2016 F250 short bed and my Jayco 33' fw. I believe they have a setup for your GMC pucks. The only thing I don't like about my hitch is the weight.
