Air bags for Silverado

I have a 2014 Chev 1500 Silverado 2wd pulling a Jayco 23' RLSW with a Curt WDH and sway bars. The rear of the PU is a bit low (about 2-3 inches) but I can not raise it with the hitch any more unless I use 2 men and a mule to set the bars. I am thinking of going to an air bag system for a little boost. What are the pros and cons of bags? What is a good brand to get? Your sage advice is appreciated.

I've used Air Lift on my last 3 vehicles. Only had one problem when I let to much air out and pinch one in the springs. They sent me a free replacement due to the lifetime warranty.

I put Timbrens on when I got the FW and couldnt be happier. No air lines or leaks to worrry about. Dont affect the ride when not loaded. Just another option to think about.

I just put the Airlift 1000 airbags and 1st generation wireless compressor in my 2014 Dodge Ram. I still need to do a little hitch adjustment, but did a 40 mile pull and could definitely tell the difference, for the better. Cost on Amazon is pretty good and not too difficult to install, me and a buddy did the airbags and compressor in about 3.5 hours.

Good luck!

I had the Roadmaster and it worked well when we had our Eagle. I went to the Ride Rite 5000 air bags when we got the Pinnacle as IMHO the RAS didn’t provide enough support for the weight.

Like Dan I went the Timbren route. Took me about 3 years to figure out if I should go that route or bags. I wanted bags (and a compressor, tank, external air source, air horns....). When I realized the budget was over $1k I dialed it back and got the Timbrens. Installed them in the driveway with out jacking the truck or removing a tire (I did remove the spare to get my hands in).
Doesn’t affect the ride when unhitched and greatly reduced the squat when hitched (that was my objective). When hitched the ride feels slightly firmer but not harsh.
I like em!

I’ve had the Firestone Ride Right air bags for about 5 years and they have been great. They were easy to install. No leaks and no issues. I’m sure Airlift would be fine too.

I had the Roadmaster Active Suspension on my old Sierra. I liked it a lot. Ride improved loaded AND unloaded. Unloaded ride was especially improved because of decreased body roll; I could take and hold corners a LOT faster after RAS. They're kind of expensive though for what they are. Hellwig helpers are pretty similar and a bit cheaper IIRC.

I chose the RAS because it's adjustable (not that I ever adjusted them) and the install was dead simple as opposed to air bags.

Are you hooking up your trailer and then using the trailer jack to raise the truck/trailer together and then hook up the bars?
