Anyone have 5th hitch with drop-in bedliner?
If you have a 5th wheel hitch mounted inside of cutouts in a plastic drop-in bed liner, how did you handle the dirt and trash infiltration issue?
I couldn't get the bed liner out without tearing it up when I bought the truck so there's no reason to think I can do it now. I'm leaving it in and working around it. I cut slots in the liner to accommodate mounting of the rails directly to the bed. The bed is still clean and shiny under the sections I've removed.
I'm thinking when the hitch mounting is done, I may screw the cut bed liner edges to the bed with metal roofing screws and try to seal it up with caulk This, in hopes of preventing leaves, pine straw, dirt and miscellaneous trash from getting under the liner.
Truck is a '94 Chev K3500 CCLB DRW. Hitch is a 16K Husky.

IMO just get rid of the bedliner now. Over the years the I fought drop in bedliner short comings, exactly what you mention with things getting under them. I went to spray on liners like Rihno or Line-X and have been totally pleased.

I also got rid of the plastic drop in liner- It was too slick and I tripped a few times before I got rid of it and had a spray in liner installed- One of the smartest moves I ever made- JMHO- DD

We had a drop in liner on our 2005 Ram. It was a reall pain It was very slippery and the ridges were hard on the knees. We now have a sprayin liner and love it. I would have to agree with the others above, I would never go back to the plastic drop in liner. IMHO I would do with out a liner if I didn't have any other option than the plastic.

Thanks for the advice but I'm not interested in getting rid of this bed liner just to buy a sprayed liner.

Previous owner of my truck had a 5th wheel hitch in the bed and slots cut in the drop-in bedliner. I too slipped in the bed once and almost broke my nose. Bedliner came out immediately with some help from my Milwaukee Hackzall. I then pulled a little over a 5 gallon bucket worth of leaves, pine needles and other assorted junk out from the corners of the bed. I was surprised at how much paint was missing around the wheel wells; the plastic had rubbed it down to bare metal. I've since sprayed in Line-X with UV protection. If you don't want to get rid of the drop-in liner, I'd still be wary of metal roofing screws. Once the paint is scratched it's easy for rust to begin around the screw hole.

I know it's pretty costly to put in Rhino Liner or those other spray-in liners, but we had a plastic liner in our first towing pickup and didn't put another one in the second pickup, we went with the spray-in liner. That drop-in was very slick and was more trouble than it was worth, in my opinion.

What is the point of a bedliner anyway?
I had a pickup for 12 years with no bedliner.
It's a truck bed. Isn't it supposed be used, and get scratched and dirty?

I like a bed liner because I can dump a bucket full of rocks or live oak firewood over the side and they bounce, not dent. Gravel shovels out easier. Heavy things slide in and out much easier. To me, the slippy nature of a plastic bed liner is an asset, not a liability. I don't spend much time in the back of my truck so comfort is not an issue. Since 1982, all three of my trucks have had a plastic bed liner. Two had gooseneck hitches. This is my 1st 5th wheel hitch.

Our new to us truck has a hard tonneau cover. I debated the spray in liner or not, but decided to go with the bed rug. it's been to cold to install so the jury is still out on the fit, but it was the best for my use.

It's for lining the bed.

What did the bed look like at the end of twelve years?

You may be right, but for what trucks sell for these days, most owners take greater care. Also, keeping up the bed appearance yields a higher resale value.
As A32319 stated. "You can dump a bucket full of rocks or live oak firewood over the side and they bounce, not dent. Gravel shovels out easier. Heavy things slide in and out much easier."
After all the above and more, the bed can be hosed down and you're ready to go out on the town.
