Axle weight of new trailer?

The yellow CCC sticker on my 17Z states the TT weighed 3055 leaving the factory. It's listed in the brochure as having 415 pound tongue weight. Is the axle weight figured by 3055 - 415 = 2640?

I don't know, but now that you mention it I'll check. I know my weights are OK, I'm just trying to balance thing a little better. I said in another post the best storage compartment for a 17Z is the TV. They won't take a lot.

I am sure you are ok, but the brochure weight is a base model with no options approximate weight and the "Yellow Sticker" as shipped weight is typically a little higher which tells me the tounge weight will be a little higher than the brochure shows.

Not in this case.

The published 415lb tongue weight was based on the published UVW, it doesn't necessarily carry over with the Ship Weight (yellow sticker). Once the actual factory Ship Weight was identified good chance the tongue weight changed as well...., depends where Jayco placed the added weight (items).

The CAT scale is the only way to confirm your 17Z loaded tongue and axle weights.

Rob_FLA & Rustic Eagle, Thank you for that insight - the UVW brochure weight, 2995, is 60 pounds less than the yellow sticker (3055). I'm not panicking but - the brochure dry hitch weight is 415 pounds. If the 60 lbs difference is a 30 lb propane tank, it would be almost all tongue weight. 415 + 60 = 475. After adding a 50 lb battery (right behind the tongue jack) the tongue weight would increase to 525. The GVWR of the 17Z is 3500 lbs. 15% of 3500 = 525 Leaving "0" for additional tongue weight. (With the addition of the WDH hardware, it could be "slightly over" before leaving the dealer.)

I hope that's not the case. I've got some weighing to do.

To comply with the 15% max tongue weight recommendation for towing, additional tongue weight might be "0" or "very little".

Hi Rob,

Just a point to consider, when you apply the WDH, it will move some of the tongue weight that is applied to the payload of the TV towards the TT axles therefore changing the GVW of the TV. How much is unique to each that TV/TT combination, but it could up to 20% of your tongue weight......this may give you a little more cushion.

It's my understanding the actual weight of the empty LP tank is included in the UVW, the Ship Weight (yellow sticker) accounts for the weight of the LP solution. For reference a "full" 30lb LP tank weighs about 54lbs, and an empty 30lb tank is around 25lbs.

In reality because of the OPD (Overfill Protection Device) on all RV LP tanks, they never get filled to full capacity.

Bob, Thanks for the claification.

This is where I'm at now: I'm going to do the best I can with what I have. It shouldn't all come down to the weight of several gallons of propane. The next time I buy a TT, the dealer is going to have a tongue scale or I'm not talking to them. (In addition to a few other things I have learned by owning / towing a TT.)

My TT UVW is near the top of Class 2, fully loaded it's barely Class 3 - not a "problem tow". So I think I can get it safely to destination and home again.

Edit: I heard this comment regarding towing a trailer: If you can get the TV to steer and stop like it didn't have a trailer coupled, you're OK to go. I'm going to have to go with that for now.
