banff to jasper

Hi. We have a 2013 Silverado crew with the 5.3 V8, trailer package, Z71 and Z85 packages. We tow a Jayco 23M with a dry weight of 5020 lbs (probably 5700 lbs when loaded). For the past several years we have been towing in Manitoba and Ontario and have had no issues but we are now thinking of doing the Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper this summer. We have travelled this route several times but not with this truck and camper and are worried about the ability of the truck to handle some of the climbs, especially Sunwapta. Is there anybody out there that has a similar rig and has done this route? Problems?

You should be fine. Towing from the coast is worst. Make sure your cooling system is good.

Thanks for the response. Yes, the truck has the 3.42 rear axle. Also, I neglected to say in my post that it has the HD trailering package and HD cooling package.

I spend weeks every year on the Icefield Highway. You should be good. This year (2019) I had the rad pulled and the fins cleaned out (back flushed) made a huge difference towing up steep hills on my way to SoCal for the winter...

Thank you Seann45. The responses so far suggest that I should be OK so that's encouraging.
