Best time to buy a new TV?

So, after my recent trip to the scales and seeing that I'm already at/over my max GVWR with kids continuing to grow and going to want to take more stuff, I'm really looking hard at up grading to a 3/4 or 1 ton for this. Not sure if I want to jump to a diesel or not. Just saw the post for the Ram 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi, and now going to research it more.

So, my question is: If I decide to go to a diesel will it be better to purchase soon as towing season is over, or wait until after winter when the snow is done?

Want to get the best deal I can, and not necessarily looking to buy new. Ford or Dodge are my choices. Just never have like the Chevy's on the inside. I really like a 3500 Mega Cab with the 6.7 Cummins locally, but , pricey!!

Any thoughts appreciated.

While I generally agree with this statement, I typically purchase in January or when the new model year is hitting lots and they start making deals on leftovers.

Doesn't sound like you want to purchase new though so I think the best deal would be to not limit your search area or models. Driving an extra 2 hours could save thousands on a model you hadn't considered.

If buying used, the time to buy is when you find it. Spend time doing the research to figure out exactly what you want, the cast a wide net to find it.

I actually got mine from Carmax, probably paid slightly more than if I could find the same truck on a traditional dealers lot and haggled. The cool thing for me was they transferred my truck from Southern CA to Central CA at no cost. I knew I wanted the specific truck because it met my needs, and the "Carfax" indicated to me it was a landscape contractors truck previously so I felt good that it hadn't been tuned, raced, generally beat up before I got it.

I don't think you would regret diesel -- this is my first diesel and I can honestly say I doubt I would ever go back.

Having bought my first diesel truck last year, I will never go back to a gas tow vehicle. Also, there isn't really a good time of year to buy a diesel truck. What I noticed, at least around me in MI, is that diesels sell quick. So if you are waiting for year end deals, you better be on top of it because few get to that point.

Just a suggestion, try emailing your local dealers and talking to the fleet managers (online sales). It has been my experience that they are paid commission based upon volume of sales, not selling price. They have more incentive to give you a better price to secure a sale and be one vehicle closer to their goal for the month.

The best part is that you do all the negotiations from the comfort of your home. No high pressure sales tactics, leaving you in the office while they "talk to the manager" etc. I knew EXACTLY what I wanted, every option and even the color. I negotiated the best possible price I could get online, put the deposit on a credit card over the phone and spent less than an hour and a half inside the dealership finalizing the sale and inspecting the truck.

I will never sit in a dealership and deal with a salesman again if I can avoid it!

GAWR front is 5500 LB
GAWR rear is 6500 LB
GVWR is 10000 LB

GCVW is 19,500 and payload is 3,144 (from the Ram website). I've not weighed it all yet as I don't have my TT yet.

Plan a trip to the CAT scale though once I get it to check everything.

I found a 2010 Chevrolet 2500hd ltz crew cab 6.0l from a truck center 375mi away. Took care of everything over the phone. They are driving the truck down tomorrow. They were no haggle pricing and it was 2-5k cheaper than anything else I found.

My current truck I bought from Indianapolis and we met in Columbus and traded at Bob Evans. I love email/phone truck purchases. Really think I'm going after a 2500 Ram with the 6.4 Hemi. Better suits my driving and gives me all I need for my TT.

It is a very nice truck and the ride is super nice. Not 1500 nice but nicer than the older ones were. I had a Ram 1500 Laramie 4X2 CC and knew I'd only be satisfied with another Laramie. The interior is just too plush not to go with it again! Stepped up to 4X4 this time too (as well as to a 2500).

Good pricing right now on left over 2014s...should be able to get a decent deal. Email the fleet managers at Ram dealers...don't settle for something you won't like down the road. It's a major investment! Get exactly what you want (provided it's out there since the 15s are rolling in shortly) even if it's a little more.

It is a major expense and actually a very poor investment
