Blue Ox with 2018 Eagle 338RETS

I am very excited to be picking up my first TT sometime next week. I am getting ready to order a Blue Ox Sway Pro with clamp on brackets. The TT is a couple hundred miles away. So, I can't look at it in person before I order the hitch. The salesman tells me there is a channel for the battery between 22"-29" from the coupler. I am hoping someone with a 2018 Eagle TT could verify that the channel won't interfere with the Blue Ox brackets. Trying to avoid any surprises when I arrive to pick it up. Any input would be appreciated.

First make sure you order the correct BlueOx. They make one for under slung and over slung hitches. I have seen many Eagles with BlueOxes. The brackets will not be a problem. The channel will not effect your brackets. I have a 338 on our lot. Ill go check if its an under or over slung hitch.

It is an underslung. You will want 1500lb bars.

Thank you very much for the response. I was planning on ordering the BXW2000 for underslung coupler. As I understand the description, the trunnion bars are for 1,500-2,000lb. tongue weight. I've read that a few Eagle owners are reporting 1,600lb. loaded TW. Does this sound correct? Listed TW is 1,315lb and with bedroom AC, king bed option, propane and fully loaded this sounds pretty realistic to me. Does this sound like the right choice?

I know that the underslung coupler requires a different hitch head. Out of curiosity, what exactly is the difference? Does it sit at a different angle?

Yes, TW sounds right.

Yes you correct about head angle. I think under slung has less angle. If you put an over slung one on a underslung the bars will have mega torque and be dangerous to unhook. If someone is complaining about their Blue ox being hard to unhook, its usually a case of incorrect head angle.

The nice thing about BO, is there is no head angle adjustment. Its built into hitch. That is why it’s critical to order correct one.

I absolutely love mine!

I agree the Eagle 338RETS (nice floorplan) is a heavy TT and loaded tongue weights above 1,500lbs are not uncommon. In the Blue Ox product line the WDH rated at 1,500lb - 2,000lb range is a good match for the 338RETS.

NOTE: The Blue Ox BXW2000 is the "overslung" version (clamp-on brackets)......., the BXW2003 is the "underslung" version (clamp-on brackets), the BXW2004 is the "underslung" version (bolt-on brackets).

Both versions of the brackets for the Blue Ox Sway Pro will work just fine on your Eagle.

I have the BXW2003 (clamp on brackets) and it works fine with my 2017 330RSTS. The battery channels behind the tongue jack are welded below the frame on the Eagle so they pose no problems with the clamp on bracket placement.

Your gonna love the Blue Ox with your 338RETS.
