Buh-bye gasser, hello diesel!
After much deliberation, several test drives of the Big Three's offerings, a sleepless night or three, a review of finances, and finally convincing myself that "screw it, for all I know I'll be dead next week anyway" is a perfectly sensible method for making big decisions...DW and I have agreed to spend way too much money on a brand new 2017 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab with the 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel.
Should have delivery by EOW if the dealer can get the spray in liner taken care of.
Then I just need to get hitch rails installed so I can find out once and for all why everyone says "Once you go diesel, you'll never go back!"
Suffice it to say, I don't expect to sleep the next few nights either.

Gee, I dunno there, Force. You might be buying too much truck - Said no one, ever.
We have about 44k on ours and I couldn't imagine towing without it.

If I may ask, what was your reasoning for getting a F250 rather than a F350?

Good question because I did look at the F350 and the price was almost identical.
1) ride comfort was noticeably different and favored the F250 (no real surprise there. DW had a lot of input on this one too)
2) in Mass (and maybe other states but I'm not sure), I would have had to register an F350 as a Commercial vehicle and that has some hidden costs (more frequent registry renewals, insurance impact, etc) plus I'd have to be DOT compliant, though that's not too big a deal.
3) Payload and towing #'s - the F350 I looked at had 3504# of available payload whereas the F250 I'm getting was just shy of #3000 and was good to handle a 15,400# in a 5th wheel/gooseneck configuration.
Short of a toy hauler, I don't see my next trailer being so big that this truck can't handle it, and so went with ride comfort as the deciding factor.
We also snowmobile and so we spend 5-6 hrs in the truck each way to NH or ME nearly every weekend in the winter, so...did I mention ride quality? lol

Gotta say I really liked the test drive of the '17 Duramax and it felt like it put power to the ground quicker than this Ford, but some of the interior features of the Ford are far ahead of where GM/Chevy are currently at and that ended up the tipping point. Well, for my wife anyway...happy wife, happy life and all that

Aaaahh......... brand wars. If I could have gotten as good a deal in the F-250 I wanted, I'd be driving one.I've been a Ford guy for many years. Now that I have the bugs worked out on mine is seems solid. It only took about 55K miles to get all the bad parts swapped out... My trailer only weighs about half what yours does, but the F-150 would have struggled with it. You'll definitely enjoy the torque of the diesel, and the improved towing mileage. Maintenance costs a bit more but in my case comes only about half as often... and I do my own saving even more. Great truck... I know you're going to enjoy it. Congrats!

Congrats. Be aware that diesels take a while to get broken in. Mileage will suck until then. My Dodge and in-law's Ford went almost 50K miles before they were broken in.
Take care of the turbo. Pay attention to the cool down requirements, especially when towing a load.
