Buying new truck.

I have a 2013 2500 GMC duramax now. 2 3/4 yrs and I have 62,000 on it already. I looked at F350's tonight and like some of the features. Problem is they don't offer collision avoidance systems and the tailgate doesn't have a damper to help lower and close it. With the intergrated step it is heavy.

I know GMC and Chevy have both those things.

Based on my experience with my GMC I can't find a reason not to get a 2016 GM 3500 truck. However it's a boat load of cash so I want to double check.

Anyone have any insight that I should consider between the Ford and GM heavy duty?

PS. I just can't make myself like the look of the Dodge HD. I have tried before the last three trucks I bought.

I'm a ford guy, but really any of the 3 brands are good. You can get an aftermarket strut for the tailgate to help ease the opening and closing of it. It really comes down to what features does the truck have that you want/like/need that fits your budget. I know when my budget allows, I would love to upgrade to a new F350. But who knows, when that time ever comes, I may end up with a different brand. Good luck in your truck hunt.

I used to purchase what fit my wallet at the time. Now that we have taken camping a little more serious ( upgrading from a pop up to a 28BHBE ), when the 1500 is up for replacement I will be doing some in depth research thats for sure. Especially after seeing these video on you tube.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the big three. But if I was looking at Ford, I would wait until the 2017 redesign. Much nicer then todays model. The Chevy, I don't care for the DEF tank on the passenger side which just protrudes below the frame rail.

I put a tailgate strut on my truck for 30 bucks. It's super handy, although it really slows down in the deep winter cold. They are very easy to add - most little features like this are easy and reasonably priced in the aftermarket world.

The 6.7L Scorpion is a beast and proving to be the most reliable PowerStroke Diesel since the 7.3L. That's what I'm holding out for... 860ft-lbs at 1600rpm.

If you go with Ford, make sure that you get the tailgate with step option!!! I wouldn't even consider the truck without that option!!!

FWIW, I don't find the tailgate with the step option to be all that heavy. It goes up and down easy enough for me and the Mrs. One thing though that you might consider if you're looking at Ford is the Camper Option that comes with a puck system in the bed. It makes adding a fifth wheel hitch a breeze and completely clears the bed when removed.

I just sold my 2005 Silverado 4x4 6.6L Duramax LT and bought a new 2015 F250 4x4 Powerstroke 6.7L Lariat. I got screwed around with major on a new GMC by a dealership, then the brush off with a second dealership. Went next door, drove the Ford and bought it that day. I am a Chevy guy, and like the looks of the Chevys better still, but I am a complete convert on the Ford 6.7L powertrain now. I drove a few Chevys and 2 Fords. If you do that, you will love the Ford motor/transmission. The turbo really makes a massive difference. I just got past 3000 miles on the new truck. I towed from AZ-CA last week and wow what a difference from my old truck. The old truck (LLY) was a dog compared to the Ford. I had to slow down because it was shifting down so much on the hills going up and down (5 speed). With the Ford, never had to do anything. Temp stayed normal the whole time (2 cooling loops). My trailer is almost 10000 lbs, but this new truck doesn't even feel like it is there.

Now, the interior in my Lariat is nice, but has more plastic than I like. The Chevys seem to have more leather. The Chevys also have lane guidance and front sensors for parking. I wish I could have got both.

I can't tell you how disappointed I was in the turbo lag for the Chevy trucks was. The price was so much better as well. Out the door price for my truck was just less than $56k and the Chevy/GMC SLT was over $63k. There was no way I was paying $7k more for the differences.

As to your questions, I didn't get the step in the tailgate. I was looking at a couple, but they were pretty light. Mine is probably 2/3 the weight of my old truck.

Can't compare a 2005 gmc with a 2015 ford. Mistake one. Mistake two, you can get a Denali 3500 DRW crew cab for under 60k. You just didn't get a good deal where you are shopping. Gmc Chevy look better inside and out like you said.

Not knocking your ford or dodges but you can get good deals on a superior gmc... Any of the three will get the job done. We pay a little more for Jayco's because you get what you pay for. Same with trucks.

You can't get a diesel anything gmc for 60. Sorry, but that would be for gas maybe. I was comparing my old truck and 2016 GMC 2500 duramax 4x4 SLT and new fords. $63 is out the door price.

I'm going with the GMC 3500 Denali. Spoke to a few dealers and most are 58500-59500 for a loaded Denali, sunroof, cab lights, 5th wheel wiring etc.

Depending on tax in your area that is around $62k out the door

We pay tax on the difference. Out the door with new 5th wheel hitch installed it's a shade under $62.

I drove a New Ford 350 Platnium. 71,900 was the sticker and they could get it down to 61,200.

Deal breaker was the lack of collision avoidance. Since we installed a collision avoidance system on our trucks at work the amount of collisions has been cut in 1/2, serious collisions have been cut by 90%. I drive a lot and my record would indicate I'm a excellent driver, but anything that offers that level of protection is a must for me.

I did like the factory 5th wheel prep. Fords Sync is better then GM's, heated rear seats in the Ford. It didn't ride as nice as the GMC.

The Ford is IMHO opinion the best looking truck of any of the HD's.

You mentioned you '05s 5 speed and it it being a dog compared to the 2016 ford, so you did compare against it at least some. And your wrong about prices. Check out Laura Buick Gmc. Just one example. Not saying your local dealer has those prices but you have to shop around. As long as your happy with our truck that's all that matters.

Congrats on the 3500. Beautiful truck you have there. Can't beat the looks of the GMC or the Duramax/Allison combo...

Gmc ford or dodge will get the job done but you have the one to have imo...
