Can my truck tow a 23MB

I hope i'm posting this in the correct forum. I posted on a different board, before locating this one. I'm still new to all this and at times find it very overwhelming. I'm very interested in the 23mb with a GVWR of 6,500 and dry weight of 4,200.

I have a 2002 Toyota Tundra 4x4 V-8 with a max towing of 7,100 pounds.

Can my truck reasonably tow this trailer? Thanks in advance.

Check against the rated payload of the truck. Estimate the loaded RV weight (I guess 5200 to 5500 lbs) and multiply by 15% to get an estimate of tongue weight. Add this to any cargo you may carry in the back plus passengers other than driver. This gives you payload. Compare against truck specs. You have enough power, it's all about payload. I don't recommend pushing it either. Rear ends don't like it.

It looks like for 2002 the Tundra was listed as having payload anywhere from 1366 to 1938 depending on trim level and options:

It also looks like max tongue weight is just over 700lbs:

Max tongue weight will be a limiting factor regardless of how much additional payload you actually have. It looks like the max tow capacity has been calculated assuming a tongue weight of 10% which is the minimum recommended. Assuming you can limit the GVW of the trailer to 5500 and your tongue weight % to no more than 13% you'd be right at the max tongue weight without any margins to account for changes that occur while traveling such as tanks full/empty, re-distributed or added cargo along the way, etc.

You certainly have plenty of power. As said above your payload my be the limiting factor. The closer you get to rated capacities the less pleasant the towing experience is. Ideally your chosen trailer should be under 6000#. However, if you generally are not towing in lots of hills or in mountains, your setup should tow just fine.

Just a note on the 23MB - check weights on the lot if you haven't bought one yet. Ours came from the factory with an empty weight of 5,017lbs. Incidentally, not sure why, but the GVWR was slightly less than I've seen advertised everywhere at 6,250lbs. What I'm saying - if you bought our trailer, you would have an extra 800lbs there you weren't expecting.

Thanks for noting this. We are looking at a 23MB but didn't consider that everything included in the Elite package will add weight. duh

If what ttavasc posted is accurate, I'd be very cautious. I've got a 5500# GVWR Jayco trailer and the tongue weight is 770# fully loaded. So depending on how that trailer loads, you could be over your max tongue weight. Which likely also means over your gross rear axle weight.
