Changing TV leads to hitch problems

I had a 2002 Suburban which had a distance of 16 1/2 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver. This required a WDH with a 2 3/4 inch rise to level. No problem.

Yesterday a traded for a 2007 Suburban. Hitch height should be the same. Right? Nope. No way. This vehicle has a distance of 24 1/2 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver. OK. Just flip the shank over and everything will work out fine. Right? Nope. No way. I need a 5 1/4 inch drop and this shank comes up 3 inches short. Having a heck of a time locating a shank with a 5 1/4 inch drop.

Anyone else run into a TV with the hitch this high?

Yup....had the similar problem when we traded vehicles....went from a 1500 2wd Silverado to a 2500 4wd Ram. Much taller, but I can see why you'd think the heights would be similar, being you only had a change in year. I would have thought the same as you. We had to buy a new hitch that dropped about 10". Plus we only had 1 day to find it. Fortunately, we had a trailer supply store in a nearby town and $200 later, we were good to go.

2007 was the year the models changed and with the poor hitch quality of the prior year hitches GM installed a larger hitch as part of the framework of the vehicle so larger hitch weight could be accomondated. Prior to my 07 I had a 99 K1500 Suburban and I was able to move the ball to the lowest setting on the shank I had. It was still higher than the last truck but once the trailer eas hooked up and the bars attached the level was perfect. I bought a 7 1/4" drop for use with non WDH trailering and that works out fine.

I had the same problem once going from a 1/2 ton to a 3/4 ton Cheby. A longer shank is the only safe option.
