Check my Math

Here goes: Wife's 17 Ford Expedition Limited Short Wheelbase, Ecoboost, 9200 tow rating, 7500 GVW, 920 Tongue max. Cat Scale Weight with me, wifey, kids, dog, kids crap and full tank of gas = 6400lbs, 3200 Front axle, 3200 Rear.

Leaves me 1100lbs. Trying to keep tongue weight at 700 to 800 plus WDH, so no more than 900 with hitch, gives me 200 of "room"

Trailer: Think I have it narrowed down to two. 2019 Jay Feather 23BHM or X24K. Heres the rub, they have not released specs yet. Going off of the 18 22bhm (5500gvw, 4020 dry, 410 tongue) my guess is the new wider 23 BHM will be 6000, 4500, 500 ish. The X24K I based off the X23B (looks to have the same front end) which is 5350, 4250,445. So Im guessing again at something like 6000,4500,500.

I plan on the trailer being around 5500 ready to camp, so 12-13% puts me at 660 to 715 tongue, worst case of 800 is my plan. Even at 6000, 15% would be 900.

So 6400 plus 800 tongue, plus 75 WDH, puts me at 7275. 225 of "extra" room, hope to not go over rear axle, but won't know until a weight the set up. Even at worst case tongue at 900 would still be under the 7500 for the truck.

Does my math seem right?

Also, going to use a Equalizer 4 point. I know 26' aint that long, but with only 119 wheel base, I hope it doesn't sway or squirm too much on me. Use to tow a 10 place snowmobile trailer behind a diesel 350, but that was nice tow set up and quite frankly, my little kids will be in car, so I need it to be safe.

Have Cooper AT3's on it, P rated, but XL load. Going to upgrade them to the new AT3 4S when they come out this fall for better snow performance.

Thanks

For your reference, my 22BHM goes across the CAT scales at 800# tongue weight ready to camp with a full fresh tank, tongue mounted bike rack, etc.

First, good move taking your TV to the CAT under loaded conditions...., nice to start of knowing your TV's actual "available" payload capacity.

Yes, your line of thinking and 'ball-park' math make sense....., but having the actual new TT specifications will add substance to your do-diligence. Also, keep in mind that the Jayco published (web site, brochure, etc.) UVW and dry weights don't reflect "as-shipped" weights...., these will be noted on the yellow sticker attached to the side of the TT.

The following JOF "CAT scale how-to" link may be helpful in the future:

https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f...v-tt-3871.html

Under loaded TV/TT conditions the CAT will confirm all your weights and proper WDH adjustment (dials it in).

What are the front and rear axle ratings for the tow vehicle and combine gross vehicle weight?

Check my Math

Just for reference. I have 2008 Toyota Sequoia with wheelbase 122. I tow 28BHBE ready for camping trailer axles weight of 7500# TW of 900#. TV/TT combo around 15000#. Sequoia acles are rated at 4000# front and 4250# rear but I am still 300# over my GVWR of 7300#. No handling or stopping problem. I keep speed around 65mph.

Here's a warning I am learning the hard way...

The 2017 30.5MBOK advertised specs:
Unloaded Vehicle Weight: 9670
Gross Vehicle Weight: 11950
Cargo Carrying Capacity: 2280

My 2018 30.5MBOK actual specs:
Unloaded Vehicle Weight: 10571
Gross Vehicle Weight: 11950
Cargo Carrying Capacity: 1379
Full fresh water tank: 675
Available: 704

So my available payload is significantly lower than the advertised specs. The moral of the story, look at the actual sticker on the as made trailer.

Insurance will pay for mistakes and stupidity. They will not pay for intentional bad behavior. There are many ways to be excluded from coverage. Some examples are:

1) burn your own house down intentionally. No check for you!

2) drive your car off into the water intentionally at the boat ramp. No check for you!

3) life insurance has an exclusion for suicide during the first year. Kill yourself during that time intentionally. No check for you!

4) Overloading a truck that you know is over the weight limit now that's makes it a dangers' weapon. No check for you!

Some insurers will not pay out if you are under the influence of drinking or drugs -. So the fact that you were drunk driving will not invalidate claims made by anyone injured as a result. But the insurers are entitled to claim these costs back from you.

You know that insurance company is in the business to make money, not to pay out? They have as many attorneys as sale representatives, their motto is make money and keep the money.
On a side not I talk to my Progressive motorcycle insurance agent and he side that if I crash my motorcycle off the side of a cliff that it would be cover and it doesn't matter that I have car tire on my motorcycle.
