7000 lb. towing capacity, but no mention of payload, also an important consideration when towing, no? Just an offhand reference to 1200 thread count sheets and other silliness.

Looks like the small displacement fuel economy battle is in full swing. Who will win, small diesels or turbo charged gassers?

I find it interesting these are coming out now. Things will get interesting as people start getting into these things and do not do the homework to educate themselves with regards to towing capacity, versus cargo capacity, versus vehicle weight, versus wheel base ratios.

Chevy Colorado Duramax Diesel

I believe the cargo/payload capacity will be the challenge with these just like any truck. Diesel doesn't have to mean big towing if it gets good mpgs. Look at some of the diesel cars that do pretty good in the mpgs dept. maybe these will be good commuter trucks for people who don't like driving cars..?

Dodge came out with theirs last year I believe. Upwards of 28 MPG...not bad for a pick up.

I think payload is going to be determined by trim level more than anything else. At the Milwaukee car show last Feb they had 3 Colorados and at least one Canyon on display. One of the Colorados had a 1600# payload and another had a 1400# payload. I think the one with 1600# was an extended cab. Not bad for a small truck.

Remember, Payload Weight is the weight of occupants, cargo, options and additional equipment. To see if a truck can carry your load, follow this simple calculation: take the maximum weight the truck is rated to carry (GVWR) and subtract the weight of the truck itself.
This is why most buy a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck.

For the folks in need of something to tow a toy without being forced into a full size to to get the needed torque, this should be a good fit. i have a hunch the price will scare more than a few into the full size however.

When I was in Asia last week these things were all over the road. Chevy is already marketing and selling overseas and asking low $30's for them over there. You should see what they load these things up with and drive down the highway. Little trucks this size with 1 ton spring packages to haul stuff.

DuraMax is a joint venture between GM and Isuzu with manufacturing in Moraine Ohio. Oshkosh Defense will be using the DMax in the JLTV

I really like this new diesel and would love to trade for one in brownstone next year. Price might be close enough to a crew cab silverado that I go back to a big truck again though.

The Cruze and sonic are more expensive than the Colorado with diesel! And here they will ask 2-3k more for the diesel! Lol
