Chevy Tahoe or Toyota Sequoia
Hey Gang,
I currently have a X17Z that I plan on keeping for awhile, but I'm debating upsizing from my Ridgeline sooner than I would have were I not towing anything. If I were to go with either a Chevy Tahoe or Toyota Sequoia, I'm assuming I could tow my X17Z with no sweat right?
As for the next trailer, would either of these 2 vehicles be able to tow a X19H or X20E? Those would be the next step up for my family were we to do so. I'm not interested in anything much longer, and I'm cognizant of the weight issues.
I'd like to pull my current trailer with very little concern for tossing gear in the SUV since the X17Z's CCC is very limited. As we upsize the trailer, we get more CCC in the trailer so throwing it in either SUV is much less of a concern.

I vote for the Sequoia being a Tundra owner. Get the 5.7 litre. If you are buying new the 4.6 litre is no longer available. You could pull two Jay Feathers with the Sequoia -almost.

Either truck will tow any of the trailers you mention with ease. I tow a X213 with a 2003 Expedition with no problem.

[ATTACH][/ATTACH]I recently made the TV upgrade you are asking about. We purchased the X18D for couple of reasons... the interior space, full time beds and the ease of towing with the gvwr maxing out below 5000lbs, within the capacity of our 2006 4Runner V6. It worked, but we were close to the weight limit and the higher the terrain the more the engine had to work, which in turn would lead to a less than relaxing traveling experience and we all know "getting there is half of the fun."
We always knew the replacement was going to be a 2008 or newer Sequoia, the hard part was finding the right one. New was not an option, 45-55k is a lot of money. Time on Autotrader lead us to a one owner, low mileage, clean Carfax SUV. The Sequoia is a large, powerful vehicle, 10,000 lb towing capacity, handles our Featherweight hybrid with total ease, barely using half of the towing capacity, which also makes a larger camper possible in the future. Also the driving/passenger comfort is outstanding, making long trips much easier than with a smaller SUV. Inside cargo behind the second seat space huge. We have two boys and a large dog and still have more than enough room, using a roof carrier for our portable holding tank.
The one feature I believe is a must on any TV is a tow package for that added peace of mind... knowing you are equipped to handle the camper and the added weight safely.

The Sequoia is quite a chunk of coin over the Tahoe. I'm leaning towards the Tahoe, but if I do anything it'll be in the Spring.

I have a 2007 Tahoe LTZ with a 4.10. That gives me 8000# towing. It has automatic air suspension to level out when towing. It tows ok even with a 2004 Jayco JayFlight 29BHS that was 7500# with 1200# tongue weight. I would not take it over a pass with that much weight but on the flats it is ok. It is a comfortable ride. I have a 7500# 750# cargo trailer that I pull with the Tahoe since I traded in my truck and the JayFlight. It pulls the cargo trailer very well and I have no problems, I would feel comfortable pulling it over a pass. The cargo trailer is only 12' x 6' and 8.5' tall so it tows easier than the tall and long JayFlight.

I pull my 28dsbh white hawk with a Tahoe. And it does just fine. Only 9 mpg

I tow our 25RKS with an '09 Tahoe with no problem. Just pulled it about 900 miles at 9 mpg. Mine has the 6.2L with 3:42 rear end. I don't think you would have a problem with either one.

Actually on closer reflection and research I'm leaning heavily towards a F-150 Super Crew w/ the EcoBoost engine.

I had a 2012 F150 with the 5.0V8. It pulled my 30 foot camper (about 8Klbs) without hesitation. I hear good things about the EcoBoost but I would not rule out the standard V8 option if it's less money. F150 is a good idea IMHO

Tahoe, Sequoia, F150,....any of these V8s with a tow package should have no problem towing any Jayco hybrid out there. I have a hemi in my Commander (same power train as a grand cherokee) and it easily tows the 17Z. In my experience, where the V8+tow package shines is when you towing fully loaded at 65 mph in +90F temps with the A/C blasting and a 30 mph cross wind.

My EXP21M weighs 4800 lbs. + another 500 of stuff and I pull it with my 2013 touareg TDI that has a tow rating of 7,700 lbs. Right now I'm traveling with it and I get 23MPG with the TT right behind it. On a 7% grade at 55 mph it's doing 28-2900RPM, this car is a Mule!!! With no TT behind it I get 30-32MPG,I love this SUV. Do yourself a faver and go look at one and take a test drive.

No prob with that setup! Enjoy the F150
For the record, we towed our 2006 Jay Feather 29Y with a 2007 Tahoe and it worked great! Would recommend upgrading to actual truck tires and using a good hitch with sway control but other than that its pretty good to go.
