Coolant leak

Our 05 Duramax has been losing coolant on a daily basis while towing on our way north for the summer- There is a definite smell under the hood when we stop for fuel, etc.- However, there is no sign as to where the leak is- If anyone has had this occur to their diesel, I would appreciate a heads up as to where I can look for the leak- I know the coolant is not leaking into the oil- Also, I discovered the upper radiator hose is partially collapsed when we stop for fuel [ I usually raise the hood and visually inspect what I can see ]- Any advice will be appreciated and I thank y'all in advance for your replies- DD

There is enough of a leak that you can see the drop every day? How much do you have to add?

When you stop and see the collapsed coolant hose, is the engine running and up to temp?

Have you tried looking after dark using a flashlight and looking for steam?

Any sign of your engine temps higher than usual?

A friend had that year and problem, it was a head gasket issue.

Head gasket (known problem) or water pump failing..

Seems like it would take a lot of coolant loss to cause so much loss of pressure that the coolant hose is somewhat collapsed. Good luck with your problem, DieselDonnie. Hope it's just a loose hose clamp.
