Coupler too tight???

Is their a standard way to adjust a coupler? Mine is hard to slide onto the ball and even harder to take off. It's as it came from the factory. I don't want to loosen it for fear that if I go over a really big bump it might come off. I've been over some really big bumps including on the highway.

No adjustments I have heard off.

I would recommend lubrication. There is a number of ways people on this site do it. Myself, I lube the ball with a good coating of High Temp Bearing grease. I wipe down the ball every 1500 miles or so and re apply. Others do simular, but wipe down after each uncouple to help minimize getting a greasy shin.

Others use spray white lithium grease, and I have even heard of people who put a couple layers of wax paper in the coupler.

Grease seams to fix the issue.

Lubricate the moving parts on your trailer tongue ball receiver latch. Also lubricate your trailer ball. Lubrication will make it much easier to operate. When you want to decouple the TV and Trailer, make sure there is no push or pull on the ball due to sloped ground. I set the chocks and if the latch on the hitch won't lift I move my vehicle forward or back a bit to loosen it up.

Often a coupler has excessive paint on the inside. If that is the case with yours, over time it will become easier to hitch and unhitch.

IIRC, some have used a wire brush on an electric drill to remove some of the extra paint.

Mine did that for awhile too. Once the paint gets worn down it works fine.

Another recommendation here for lubricating the ball with lithium grease.
