Difference between a F250 to F350??
100 would be the smart arse answer ;-) But my Brother in law and I were trying to find the differences. The Engines seemed the same. Is it in the suspension??
And a gas F250 is about $10000 less than a comparable Diesel???

Mister ug ,Suspension, all the engine / trans combo's are available in both trucks.I have a 250 & my son's have 350's, which are a little taller . They're always kidding me about when my truck is going to grow up. Larry

The 350 also has heavier duty braking which gives it a higher tow rating.
Regarding gas vs. diesel. Yes diesel is more expensive but you are also much more durable for towing. Just pull a RV through the tall mountains and see how many gas burners vs diesels are pulled over in an over heated situation. Couple weeks back I pulled from near Anniston Al to Pensacola FL (265 mile pull) on a 97 degree day. Along the way I saw 4 gas vehicles, 2 of them class C RV's, pulled over with raised hoods overheated.
If you are not going to do much heavy duty work with your truck, by all means go gas. Not worth the extra bucks.

Actually, the single rear wheel F350 has 100 lb. less capacity than the F250 because of the heavier components although braking will be better. Where the F350 really shines in weight capacity is when you go to dualies.

I'm not so sure there there is a difference in braking... I'm 99% sure that all of those components are exactly the same.
The main (only) difference in an F250 and F350 is payload capacity. This higher capacity is achieved by adding an overload spring. The F350 also has a 4" block in the rear instead of the 2" block found on F250s. This makes the rear sit higher unloaded, but it also sits higher when loaded (eliminates the sag seen on many F250s).
Drivetrain is all the same, although you may get some different gearing choices by going to a one ton. Tow ratings are also similar, but as previously stated, the F350 can handle higher payloads (and thus higher tongue weights or pin weights).
Although still technically a one ton, a dually is a totally different animal with higher capacities all around (still same drivetrain etc, but more overall weight capacity).

I stand (ok, I'm sitting) corrected. The 2011 F250 and F350 SRW (single rear wheel)now have identical tow ratings. Download the brochure here and look on page 27. With a gas engine, the duallies have a 100lb lower tow rating. The figure jumps dramatically with a diesel.

250's have 2 inch riser blocks in the rear, 350's have 4 inch riser blocks
250 rear springs have 3 leafs, 350's have 4 and an overload spring, unless the 250 has the camper package then the rear springs are the same
250's have vacuum assist brakes, 350's have hydro-boost brakes-same rotors and pads on both
SRW Super Duty drive lines are the same-DRW's get a Dana rear
These comparisons are for the 2011 Super Duty.

Very interesting that the 2011's have vacuum assist brakes on the 250s. Are you sure about that on the diesels? I believe all previous models had vacuum on gas motors, and hydro-boost on diesels.
On my 2006 (and all 1999-2007 models, not sure about 2008-2010), the rear spring packs are the same... I think there are 5 leaves. As mentioned though, the F250s have a 2" block, and the F350s have a 4" block and an overload spring.

There is no vacuum on a diesel.. that is why the hydro boost.

2011 F250 diesels have vacuum assist brakes-I have one. They have a vacuum pump driven by the engine to create the necessary vacuum for the brake system and 4x4 axle. Most if not all diesels have a vacuum pump as something on the truck is vacuum powered. It is a change that Ford made for 2011-F250 diesels have vacuum brakes. Previous to 2011, diesels got hydro and gassers got vacuum.
As for the rear spring pack, Ford made another change there as well. The F250 got the 3-leaf pack to make the unloaded ride better. If the 250 has the camper package, they have the same springs as the 350.
Don't know why they made these changes. The springs I can see for ride quality. Brake system-who knows. I don't feel any difference in the brake assist or stopping power with mine vs. a 350 with hydro-boost. Drove both, got the 250 because the 350 won't fit in the garage.
