Dingy and/or dolly braking requirements

Need help. New to RVing and trying to understand the different braking requirements for dingy (4 down) and dolly towing. My question: When towing using a dolly are the surge brakes on the dolly sufficient to meet the requirements for towing or is some additional remote braking system needed like when towing a dingy? I have researched all the other pros and cons and am at the point I want to make my final decision but need to understand exactly what will be needed based on which I choose.
Thanks Dick and Vick

Welcome to the forum. Sorry. I don't have an answer to your question, but there are many folks here that tow a dingy. Hopefully some will be along shortly.

I think a lot depends on what you're towing, and with what. Years ago I towed a VW Sirocco wheels down, behind a 27' Class A gasser. No problems, but had to be REAL careful where I parked. Toad was light enough, so no external braking device was used. (Maybe I was just ignorant to it.) If your toad is heavier, then I would look into a add on vehicle braking system. They can be as pricey as a tow dolly, so the choice is up to you. It's always better to be safe. At least with a dolly, you can use it for towing other things around, also.

If the dolly rating is at or below the weight of your toad the surge brakes are more than sufficient.

Dingy and/or dolly braking requirements

Thanks all - I think you have given me enough information to make my choice based on weight of my toad (2008 Saturn Vue) behind 2006 30ft Jayco Greyhawk with the Triton V10. I want to make sure I'm safe but also looking to keep my cost down and it appears the dolly will be the right answer for me since I have other needs for a dolly. Look forward to learning from everyone on the forum since we obviously have much to learn. First time RVers and campers so if should be the adventure. My wife and I are both looking forward to it.
