The salesman said, "No Problem!"

Am I right?

Others will give better technical reasons, but looking at the raw numbers, even I have to say that you are nearly maxed out before you put any people in the truck. Let alone gear, supplies and water.

I think the most important number for you when looking will be found on the door sticker on your truck. "The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed x,xxx lbs" Based on a rough guess from GCWR-MaxTow = approx. curb weight, and subtracting that from GVWR, I'll guess yours at about 1200 lbs? My fuzzy logic may be off as that number sounds low for a RAM truck.

Take the hitch weight quoted, add 15% of the weight of cargo you will load in the trailer (somewhere 0-276 lbs for your example above). So let's say 900 lbs. tongue weight loaded (about 700 lbs of gear in the trailer). You have about 300 lbs of capacity left in the truck for passengers, cargo, and WD hitch. That's not much for going camping.

IMO - it is the CCC of your tow vehicle that seems to most often be the limiting factor for a bumper pull trailer UNLESS you have a decent max tow/payload package on your truck. I know that the cargo capacity number is the one other number I keep in mind when trailer hunting. I used the tow capacity to weed out the way too big trailers, then the cargo capacity to whittle it down to the possible.

I went through the CAT scales this weekend fully loaded, and I am good on everything, but with the WD bars off, I am only 7 lbs below my rear GAWR. That's cutting it to a fine line.

For a RAM 1500 with larger cab size, 4x4 and a higher trim level it's actually not. Looking at the OP's signature picture it looks like they have a Quad Cab or perhaps a full size Crew Cab like my Big Horn trim which is 1100 payload. Their curb weight is about the same as mine. It works well for us given it's just the two of us and we didn't need a larger trailer. The 3.21 rear end should do a decent job up to about 6000lb GVW trailer - much more than that and it would be better to have the 3.92 rear end. But my experience in looking at RAM's a couple of years ago is that most of what's on the dealer lot is the higher trim level, lower payload and 3.21 rear end models so you will run out of payload before you reach that 6000lb+ trailer weight.

We tow our 19RD with a Chrysler Aspen (pretty much the same as your vehicle) and the key is in the wheel base. Ours came with the same wheel base so we can tow up to 7500 pounds (our camper GVW is 6000). It tows smoothly but I would not want to go with a camper that big. Maybe 21' or 23'. If we had the bigger wheel base we could tow 8500.

You are probably pushing several limits with this combination. My trailer has about the same specs as the one you are looking at.

My CAT Scale GCVW is 12800 with the truck rated at 16000. My payload is similar to yours and I am maxed out. Your tongue weight when loaded may approach 1000#

The rear axle ratio is not real favorable for pulling that size TT .

If you are going to a nearby campground for the weekend you will probably be OK, however if you're going tour the country go with a smaller trailer or more capable truck

Your actual payload is 936lbs (6800 GVWR - 5864 curb) and the tongue weight of that trailer will likely be pretty close to that. My trailer has roughly the same weight numbers as the one your propose. That truck isn't going to work for that trailer, unless you don't bring anyone or anything else with you when you travel.
