I use control when ever I can and when I do I make sure I keep a good distance. The exception is when traffic is busy where people might be going in and out of lanes without keeping a good distance.

There is no issue using cruise control as long as your tow vehicle isn't searching for gears often. Your torque converter should be locked up in a proper gear and should not have to shift out of it unless a hill is encountered.

The time to not use cruise control is towing in hilly or mountainous areas, where downshifting is inevitable. In that case, allow your speed to vary a bit in order to prevent numerous shifts and extended periods of time with the torque converter unlocked. This generates lots of heat, which kills transmissions.

Some people elect to lock out overdrive gears for towing, if their tow vehicle has such a feature.

I use it whenever I can. No reason not to except for the times Skybound said.

I use mine all the time. The only time I turn it off is as was mentioned, in hilly terrain or in traffic. Good thing for me that doesn't happen all that often between here and the beach!

Seriously, as long as the tranny isn't hunting or shifting frequently such as up and down hills, you're fine. Why not be just that much more comfortable? Especially out here in rural S. Central Texas plains, not a lot of hills or traffic (except for in the shale region) but lots of wide open space and long long drives to get anywhere; yup, I'm glad to have cruise control on those kind of drives...

Drive through Kansas/Nebraska/Oklahoma without cruise, your foot might fall off.

All the time, towing or not. My pickup has a standard in it, and I will kick the cruise on when I finally get going at a steady speed. I think it is awesome.

I use it in the motorhome too. All the time.

I even use it on the Goldwing.

Thanks to all! This was a discussion between me and the DW. IT seems that when I sit to long in the truck or car my right leg begins to hurt something bad so I use the cruise (so long as I am not in a hilly are) also I do keep it out of overdrive always .

I use it frequently when conditions warrant its use. Definitely when on an interstate, less often on rural winding roads or steeper hilly roads.

I use mine all the time, towing or not. As mentioned before I don't use it in heavy traffic, hills, mountains, and on icy or wet roads.

Pretty much my thoughts.

I don't use cruise in the rain or wet roads. Many years ago, I had the rear tires break loose going up a hill in high gear with wet pavement on the highway. Thank God I didn't have the cruise control on!! The rear end started kicking out to the side, but I was able to catch it before it got too far. But I still got scary close to a jack knife @ 60mph.

I use my cruise on pretty much flat or slightly hilly highways. But on bigger uphill grades, I cancel the cruise and drive it manually. I find that the cruise control will allow a loss of a few mph as the hill begins and will try to get that 2 to 3 mph back going up the hill. As a result, the truck will downshift 1 or 2 gears and try to accelerate up the hill. That hurts the MPG numbers. By manually driving the speed, I can keep the truck from downshifting as much by waiting to get any lost speed back until the top or downhill side of the hill.

I use cruise control a lot. When I see a big hill coming up I just hit the throttle and pick up a few extra miles per hour. At times I cancel it on long down hills.
