Double tow

Just purchased a new 28bhbe, I requested recieved hitch on rear because I double tow my boat. Salesman said your in luck trailer comes standard with receiver hitch. Now at home I read that can not tow, for accerory rack only.
Does anyone tow with this set up? Or do I have to cut this one off and get set up from hitch shop?

I would send Jayco and email along with your VIN and ask that same question about the hitch, better to hear it from the horses mouth.

If it had the safety chain bracket it's a hitch, no bracket it's for the accesory rack. There should actually be a sticker on it telling you what it's for.

When we bought our PINNACLE it had the same hitch and JAYCO emphatically said "Not for towing" when our dealer called them. The HT's are the only ones set up for towing if I remember correctly.

Well so far waiting 3 days for local dealer to answer my call, so took advice contacted Jayco directly. Wow all I can say is I hope I never need customer service again. Was told not to double tow with that hitch and it's not any concern to them deal with dealer you purchased at, was not even able to ask technical question on hitch what makes so weak etc they ended call

I thought all hitchwork had to have it's capacity on a sticker on the hitch?

Yeah..no towing with that. I'm sure you can get a hitch made for towing installed. Might be a challenge to find though. Double towing isn't the most popular thing in the world. Good luck!

I'd also find out if Jayco says "ok" about towing before buying anything. It might not be built to handle it and what you have is it.

Its shocking to hear a sales person lied to get a sale.....ok not so much...I believe nothing an RV salesperson or a truck salesperson tells me...and I'm proven correct most of the time.

It's LIPPERT not certifying the frame for the additional stress.

Call back again you will get someone else, if they can't answer ask to be bumped to someone who can. You may have to call Lippert also

Might not apply to the OP ( double towing is OK in Ontario and some surrounding states) but its a no no in NY..

We go up 17 by Ottawa-Sudbury-Superior and double towing is the rule.. It might be good to try to literally hitch up and contact some TT owners in your area to find out if there is a work around.

Our Ontario law allows us to double tow with max length bumper TV to bumper of what ever towing of 75.6 feet as long as TV rated for lbs towing.

What is Lippert? Never heard that before?

If you can't do it yourself go to a welding shop and they can figure out something.
Where there is a will there is a way todo it safely. Never mind the factory warranty, you might never needed. With high tensile steel frame it is better to do a bolt-on design than weld-on design.
