Duramax Suggestion - Maybe Good, Maybe Not - But Cheap

I have a friend in the northern US that uses Duramax/Allison powered 1 ton trucks for boat towing. He tows heavy most of the time and runs from coast to coast. This has been his primary source of income for many years and he has had several GM trucks. His current truck is a 2009 Chev 1 ton that now has 150,000 miles on it. During the winter months he uses the truck for snow plow duty.

He just posted on another forum a suggestion to increase battery life. His contention is that rotating the batteries moves the battery that is close to the firewall further forward into a cooler area where it doesn't heat soak as it does during the summer months. He says this rotation increases batter life by about a year.

Maybe, maybe not, but it doesn't cost anything to do it.

Intresting thought Ed.

Again does not cost anything and may increase battery life.

When we traded our 2007 Duramax in a few months back, we still had the orginal batteries in it.

My OEM batteries were replaced when 4 years old. The battery closest to the firewall was the bad one.

Maybe, Maybe Not! But again, it doesn't cost anything to do it, but a few minutes.

I have been meaning to ask you Rob, how living with DEF is working out? Cost, frequency of filling the tank, etc.

It has been ok, uses about 1 gal per 1000 miles.

I have a little over 5000 miles on the truck and have added DEF twice.

DEF Tank holds about 5 gallons.

I keep a 2.5 Gal bottle in the toolbox just in case I run low. (2.5 Gal Bottle is about $14)

Guess the best thing about the DEF it is no Diesel smell from the exhaust (Still get some soot on front of 5er from exhaust)
