emergency breakaway cable

Hello everyone, we are about to take our new to us 2006 JayFeather 186 Sport out for its shakedown to a nearby (36 miles) campground. The previous owner had the breakaway cable threaded through one of the safety chains. This doesn't look proper to me. What say you that are more experienced than I? What is the right way to hook this cable to the TV? Thank you in advance.

Run the breakaway from the switch directly to the TV, like the hitch or frame. Through the chain isn't a good idea.

What he said. But, the preferred way is connected to the TV frame or body in case the entire hitch should break from the TV.

Never through the chain. And it should be SHORTER than your chains.

Dealer trained us to run it thru the chains, I didn't like that either. One of the first thing I invested in was a coiled breakaway cable like this, it stays out of the way, simple to hook up, and I like it much better than the one that came from Jayco.
